2010 Colts Team Captains Announced

The Colts like to pride themselves on not changing things just for the sake of change. In the case of naming team captains, that philosophy very much makes sense.

Phil Wilson of the Indianapolis Star Tweeted a little while ago that the player captains for the 2010 Colts are the same as they were for the 2009 Colts.

#Colts keep same captains in 2010: QB Peyton Manning on offense, MLB Gary Brackett on defense, K Adam Vinatieri and S Melvin Bullitt on STs.

It almost goes without saying that Manning and Brackett are the unquestioned leaders of this team. When you look at both men, they represent the wide net the Colts use to bring in quality players. Manning, a first overall draft pick in 1998 and the son of a great NFL quarterback in his own right, and Brackett, an undrafted college walk-on from Rutgers who many thought was too short to excel at the NFL level.

The always popular Adam Vinatieri has always been a special teams leader, and once again Melvin Bullitt is awarded a captaincy honor by his teammates. Bullitt might be one of the most under-rated players in the NFL. However, it's clear his teammates do not under-rate him.

You beat me to the punch on that one.

I was gonna say, Gonzo got pissed off and told Mike Chappell that management lied to him about being the ST captain.

Bullitt on ST

means our kick coverage should be much better. That’s good news BTW.

But they lost Silva

who was a monster on special teams.

by Naptime! on Sep 8, 2010 11:51 AM EDT up reply actions

Bullitt played a lot less on ST last year, than before.

I think this trend will continue.e is the only decent S backup.

Jeff Saturday

I will NEVER understand why Jeff Saturday isn’t a Captain since he’s the unquestioned leader of the offensive line and Peyton’s second in command on offense.

I think you can only have one offensive captain

and Peyton is the heart, soul, and skeleton of the team.

Also muscle, nerves, major organs, and circulatory system.

Basically, the rest of the team is skin, fingers, and toes.

We need to trumpet the "Peyton is the captain" loud and clear...

… so Gruden will finally shut up about the “Peyton is the sherriff” thing.

Did anyone ever call Archie great before Peyton got to the NFL?
Manning, a first overall draft pick in 1998 and the son of a great NFL quarterback in his own right

I hear people say it all the time now but I’ll but I’ll be damned if anyone called him great back in the day. The man won about 25% of his starts and had almost 50 more INTs than TDs in his career.
He made a pair of probowls on questionable merit but thats about it.

Seems like the glow of his sons has rewritten the history books when it comes to Archie.

I heard it in the 70s...not to show my age. Lol

His teams SUCKED. He was constantly running for his life behind a porous line. His play alone kept them in games, and squeaked out a few wins a year. He was tagged with the “best player on a bad team” mantra long before his boys were in the league.

Yeah, stat lines won't give ya the story about Archie. Ya had to be there.

I'll second that...

Archie was the real deal…

I think Archie got a boost from having two Super Bowl MVP sons.

That being said, as I understand it he wasn’t bad back in the day.

Although this does bring up the really awkward question as to whether he gets in to the Hall of Fame for fathering a pair of NFL QBs.

who is the nose hair of the team?

would that be the PS guys, or the guys they cut?

I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.

If Bullitt is one of the most underrated players in the NFL

Then I’m the queen of Scotland. He’s one of the most correctly rated players in the NFL. An above average safety who is a jack of all trades but a master at none.

Soaring, is this allowed?

I expect bigger things from not only the Punt and Kickoff Return teams.

The Punt and Kickoff coverage units should be an improvement.
