Fans who think "Ugoh wasn't that bad" need to go back and watch the games. He got beat regularly. Peyton Manning saved him so many times with that quick release and ability to step away from the rush. The TE and RB also chipped Ugoh's guy a lot, too.
Factor in that when Ugoh got hurt, he took a while to heal and I'm not surprised Polian finally lost patience with him. Maybe the toe was serious, maybe it was broken, but a team can only wait on a guy for so long.
PhilB makes it clear that Tony Ugoh was indeed a bust.

What is more noteworthy:
A: Polian drafted a bust OT in the late first round/early second.
B. Polian constructed SB team with an OL that he found via R6-UDFA-UDFA-UDFA-R4.
Jason Heyward wins at baseball.
Tarik Glenn
Polian did not draft him. He was, arguable, the best LT this team has ever had. He was drafted by Bill Tobin in 1997, along with Adam Meadows (another solid o-lineman not drafted by Polian).

I was refering to last year. Note that I didn’t say SB winning team.

It's SB or bust, man
Losing the SB is the same as missing the playoffs now. both are big disappointments.

LOL, had this argument with Niners fans a few weeks ago
I think that few is silly. A Super Bowl title is the goal, but holding that 0-16 and 18-1 are the same level of success is absurd on it’s face. You didn’t explicitly take it that far, but (to address what you said outright) I don’t think it’s questionable that the Colts had a better season last year than the Pats.

Colts
The Colts are on a different level than the Pats now. The expectation for 2010 is to win a Super Bowl. Anything less is a disappointment. I personally feel that fans should not shy away from such expectations. The team has loads of talent. They have the best QB in football. Other than injuries, there’s no reason for them not to win it all.

I'm fine with calling it a disappointment
but you wouldn’t be more disappointed with missing the playoffs than losing the Super Bowl?

I would
Both mean no trophy. The trophy is the only thing that matters this year. Lots of people feel that way, man.

That might be my thought going in, but 10 years from now
if the Colts lose back-to-back Super Bowls, I’m probably happier that I watched them lose in the big game, than if they were to lose in back-to-back divisional rounds.

Was the 2009 season more successful than 2008?
I agree completely that when it comes down to it, the Lombardi Trophy is what people will remember 20 years from now. However, I consider last season — which resulted in a Super Bowl loss — to be far more successful than the previous year when we lost to the Chargers in the wild card round, and certainly much better than 2001 when we went 6-10 and missed the playoffs altogether.
All publicity is good publicity. Even if we lost the big game, the Colts got much more attention last year than we would have if we had a mediocre 8-8 season.
People are honestly crazy...
If they’re still defending Ugoh/don’t consider him a bust. He is the very definition of a bust. All the physical tools, none of the heart. Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane. You’ve heard all the cliches before, but they’re absolutely spot-on when it comes to Ugoh. The Colts got tired of him essentially being a giant pussy and waived-injured him. If they were confident about his ability to contribute in the future (and why would they be, given what he’s “shown”?) they would have straight IR’d him and ate a roster spot for a week. Since they’re ready to move on from him — whether some folks want to admit this or not — they waived-injured him to open up a roster spot and put him on the wire where someone else can pick him up.
BBS described it beautifully: By placing Ugoh on Waived-Injured, the Colts are effectively saying, ‘Anyone want this? Anyone? Anyone? No? OK, we’ll put it in storage now and dump it later.’
Anyone still in Ugoh’s corner is crazy beyond repair.
