In order of most important to the successful 2010 season-yes I think it was a success based on the odds that it should have been much worse considering the injuries.- For our purposes it is assumed that #18 was the most important so this is the best of the rest of the team.
5. Jacob Tamme- To step in off the bench and be 80% of a Pro Bowler Dallas Clark. He also stayed relatively healthy which has been his biggest issue during his young career. I believe the most surprising thing was his allusive speed.
4. Mookie- Antonio Johnson was playing like a madman during the last 4 games. He challenged the defense to rise to his challenge and I think we lost against the Jets when we found out that he was hurt. He was nasty inside and I think he was a big help for Moala's development.
3. Antoine Bethea- In a year that saw every player get hurt Antione was solid and consistent. Can you imagine if he and ole Bob Sanders would have played the the who season. This season was a lot of what ifs. But as solid as Gary Brackett is in the middle Antoine gave a silent leadership by showing up for games and practice and staying healthy enough to play.
2. I'm cheating here- Javarris James-Mike Hart-and Dominic Rhodes- The reason that I feel that this is fair is due to the fact that it took all 3 to have an effective backup to Joe Addai. Javarris gave us 6 hard nosed td's from a free agent rookie. Hart was special against Houston here- that win was very big. and Dom brought in the lighting spark that we need in the last 4 games. All told they were healthy collectively for about 17 weeks-so I count them as one.
1 Robert Mathis- I can't tell you how much I enjoy watching him play. I also can't help but think that the student has become the master(Freeney). Robert was a consistent performer and just makes the play-strip fumble-pressures-knock downs of QB's. His motor was on in almost every game and there is a reason that he is in the pro bowl-it is not cause he is a big name-I don't think he is-It is because he has honed his craft and is one badass mother.
Honorable mentions-Brackett-J Powers-Reggie Wayne-Charlie Johnson-Kavell Connor and Pat Angerer. Very good years had by all.
