How Long Does Jim Caldwell Have?

I like many of you out there, we are now on alert to see a news flash on ESPN saying 'Colts release Head Coach Jim Caldwell'.  Sadly though I don't see it coming quite yet.  Its without question the the man does not deserve to be in charge of this team.  Frankly, some of us saw he's days were numbered before others but, we all seem to be on the same page now.  You might ask why are we not in a steady rush to remove him from doing any farther damage to his reputation or the team's?  The answer isn't because were a classy organization and wouldn't wish to distract the players more by making a mid-season move like the front office wants to tell you.  The answer has always been Andrew Luck or the power of holding the number one pick this year.  If we turn this team over to say Jim Tressel, we could actually pose a threat of beating another team out there.  And, we wouldn't want to do that with the way the Miami Dolphins have been playing.

We know Andrew Luck is the top prize this year and if you don't decide to take him there will be another team willing to pay for him.  Now, compare that to owning the second selection in the draft.  Nobody will do jack for that spot, its a roll of the dice to find the next most talented player.  Making it more than obvious Miami has nothing to lose by rolling over and playing dead for Denver at the end of yesterday's game.  Its as if they said "Wait a minute we better stop trying here or win may end up winning one".  We both stink of desperation to do whatever means it takes to claim that  top/bottom spot.  I have a hard time believing in the quiescence of  two competitive organizations possibly going win less when trying to compare them to the dumpster fire Detroit was when they did it.  The worst part is we the fans are the ones suffering the most from watching it.  Maybe I'm wrong and we still care about winning this year, I don't know?  The shame is the commissioner doesn't have the ability to stop this madness from spilling over on national television, if they are tanking this season.

When its all said and done, Jim Caldwell never should have been the head coach of this team.  He never earned his strips like some coaches have.  He was hand picked to run a well oiled machine and he ended up replacing parts, not properly working it, and eventually turning it into garbage.  The Colts need to allow someone else to take over, maybe we still go 0-16 and get Luck.  But, the fans shouldn't be forced to watch opponents make fools of us.
