Colts Cut Darren Evans Again, Sign DE Mario Addison
Well, I guess Bill Polian was blowing smoke this past Monday when he said Darren Evans was going to get some carries this weekend against the Panthers. Indianapolis waived the former Mr. Football and Indiana high school star Tuesday.
The Colts also claimed defensive end Mario Addison off waivers. Addison was recently with the Bears.
At 6'3, 254 pounds, Addison is undersized, but he showcased significant pass-rushing ability for the Bears during their training camp last August. We have video of Addison after the jump. He went undrafted in 2011 out of Troy, the same school that produced New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora and Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware.
It seems like the Bears cut him because they just have an abundance of talent along the defensive line.
Back to Evans, it would appear that, with his release, the likelihood of Joseph Addai playing this Sunday just increased. Delone Carter and Donald Brown are the only other healthy RBs on the roster. Ryan Mahaffey is also on the roster, but he's a fullback.

Ryan Mahaffey?
Fullback? When do we ever use an actually fullback position? I know Gronkowski is gone and Eldridge is injured, but you tell me Justin Snow can’t just run and block?

He probably can, but you don't want him to.
So you put him in to “run and block.” He gets injured now your down a TE/FB.
Oh, and a really good long snapper. Oh well that job can’t be that hard can it? There are some spots that making a player play out of position is not a good idea.

Ok, then just sub someone else in.
To me, the FB position is the easiest position to replace. I mean, how many great FBs are there right now? I can think of Vonta Leach and that’s about it. Put in Anthony Hill or Mike McNeill and I’m sure they can do it adequately. If I can recall, the Packers put in BJ Raji at FB and ran it in for a TD this past weekend. Point is, just about anyone can play FB.

How dare you insinuate Mr. Polian was anything less than truthful during his show!!

interesting...
things should be interesting next year… still can’t see the Colts resigning Mathis, so there will be a huge void at DE… I wonder who will fill it… and i hope they don’t suck.

How many DEs do we have on the roster?
Freeney, Mathis, Brayton, Hughes, Anderson…this new guy. Not saying he’s bad, but do we need so many? Plus, Hughes never plays and I don’t know if this guy will… Hughes still has to prove he’s not a bust

Well
The season is basically over, so I think it is a good idea to bring in some new guys, and hopefully find a hidden gem somewhere, so eventually losing Mathis won’t hurt as much.

Not to mention TEs
Wouldn’t it be useful signing more decent DBs? Our secondary is the worst I’ve ever seen

I don't
think Hughes is a bust as much as he is being played out of position.
