Mr. Irsay this is a MUST read.
OK Mr. Irsay, here is one proposal for the team, top to bottom. Let me just list the free agents now. Internal free agents to sign: Robert Mathis and Pierre Garcon. External free agents to sign: Carl Nicks, Ben Grubbs, and Ted Ginn Jr. 1st three draft picks should be: Andrew Luck, Dontari Poe (DT) (If he comes out), Dwight Jones (WR)
So here is the new front office and starting lineup on both sides of the ball.
President-Reggie McKenzie (Packers)
Vice President/GM-Floyd Reese (Patriots)
Director Football Administration-Joe Hortiz (Ravens)
Director Player Personnel-Ron Hughes (Steelers)
Head Coach-Pete Carmichael Jr.
Offensive Coordinator-Norv Turner
Defensive Coordinator-Mike Singletary
QB-Andrew Luck
RB-Delone Carter
WR-Desean Jackson
WR-Dwight Jones
TE-Jacob Tamme
OLT-Ben Ijalana (I think Costanzo would be better on the right side)
OLG-Ben Grubbs
ORG-Carl Nicks
ORT-Anthony Costanzo
Defense:
DE-Robert Mathis
DT-Dontari Poe
DT-Drake Nevis
OLB-Ernie Sims
MLB-Pat Angerer
OLB-Kavell Connor
CB-Kevin Thomas
CB-Chris Rucker
SS-Joe Lefeged
Any extra money left over from cutting or trading Wayne, Brackett, Addai, Diem, Clark, Manning can be used to sign a solid cornerback. Ted Ginn solves your return problems. I really do think a scheme change will do wonders for the young players on the team. This squad would be young enough to grow with Luck and pieces can be interchanged as needed. A beast of a DT to go along with Freeney/Mathis will allow the secondary to press a lot more, and cover for less time. It will also allow the LBs to flow more freely to the football. I have a plan for a 3-4 Defense as well, but I will save it for next time. If you notice, everyone of the front office personnel come from successful organizations. Not perfect, but it is at least an option to think about.

As funny as I think it is that you continue to address Jim Irsay,
Are you kidding?
Carter over Brown, even though Brown has run better?
Felton over Mahafferty?
Where did DeSean Jackson come from?
Start Jones over Garcon?
Why sign Grubbs and Nicks when Reitz has played great when healthy?
Sims is awful. Why in the world would you want him starting?
Thomas and Rucker? No Powers and no CB in the draft?
No SS in the draft?
This team would be worse than if you just put Peyton Manning into this year’s starting lineup.

Come on now, think outside the box
I’ve watched hours of film on Brown. Dude can’t block and he has terrible vision. Outside of maybe 5 or 6 runs he has been horrific. On one play, he literally put his head down and rammed it into his lineman’s back. Yes Delone has fumbled the ball but if you watch his runs, he’s got good vision, he consistently makes the first man miss and he breaks tackles.
I’ll give you Mahafferty over Felton, there’s like 4 FB’s on the roster so I was just throwing a name out there.
DeSean would be a free agent pick up and a “playmaker” Polian was talking about. Imagine being able to throw him out there as a PR every now and then or using him on a reverse, or sending him and Garcon deep on the outside, leaving big 6’4 Jones to operate in the middle of the field.
Garcon would be the #3 WR, Colts run a lot of # WR sets anyways so it would be like he’s starting anyways.
Grubs and Nicks are HUGE upgrades over Reitz and whoever else is there. Reitz is better to have as a back up.
Sims is all over the field and deserves to start, scheme is killing his talent.
Thomas and Rucker are bigger CBs that can press (with a strong front 4), Powers is making too much money to be always injured. Starting to look like a Bob Sanders clone, always hurt.
I had the first 3 picks of the draft, 4-7 can be CB, SS, and whatever else.
I’m assuming you like the front office/coaches. Would be like no other.
You’re absolutely wrong on Brown. Statistically and on video, he’s been better than Carter. Point to one stat where Carter’s been better.
You didn’t mention DeSean in your free agents, so I wondered where he was coming from is all. He’s going to want #1 receiver money, and frankly, he’s not good enough to be a #1 receiver.
Garcon would be #3 behind a 3rd round rookie and Jackson? Pull the other one.
It’s all about cost vs. benefit. Grubbs and Nicks are going to want big contracts, and with Reitz playing well, the Colts don’t need to spend that money there.
Sims is awful. Just awful. He can’t cover anybody, and that is what he was supposed to be good at. Just ask PFF.
Powers isn’t really making much money, he’s still on his rookie contract. Why you would assume he’s making much money is beyond me. 4-7 CB/S are going to get us in the mess we’re in this year, that is, not having a secondary.
I’d rather have BP in the FO than those people. But if you’re going to ax him, sure try some other guys out.

There's so much wrong with this.
I know it’s an opinion, but this fixes close to nothing. Let’s go piece by piece.
Delone Carter at RB. He’s proved nothing so far, just that he can fumble easily. Carter still need to learn, he should be taking 10 snaps a game and most of the short yardage and goal line snaps. Donald Brown has shown A LOT of improvement. His vision and blocking has been better this year, and I think he can take the #1 role if needed. Addai I agree can be cut.
Dwight Jones at WR. He’s a rookie, and it’s unlikely the Colts will even be able to draft him. And again he’s a rookie, he’s not better than Garcon, at least not at this point.
Desean Jackson at WR. He’s a trouble maker, and soon enough he’s going to get arrested for something stupid. Oh and there’s going to be an auction for him where it’s unlikely the Colts will win.
Carl Nicks and Ben Grubbs. Ok why would Baltimore and New Orleans not resign those 2. The NO Saints o-line is top in the league because of their 2 guard, unlikely they’d let him go. Same with Baltimore, wihtout Grubbs and Yanda, Flacco would’ve been killed by now.
Mathis at DE. I’m just saying, if Reggie Wayne and Manning goes and Luck comes in, Mathis is definitely leaving.
Ernie Sims at SAM LB. He’s not terrible, he’s serviceable, but at that point, might as well just start Wheeler.
Thomas and Rucker at CB. Ok what? So far, Thomas has shown promise, I can accept Thomas at CB. But Rucker? He’s Jacob Lacey at best. Actually Thomas was benched for Lacey, but Thomas and Rucker? Powers isn’t an option either, he’s like Hayden, a 12 game season type of player and he’s short. A short CB isn’t a good mix. You need new CBs from free agency.
Joe Lefeged at SS. So far, David Caldwell has played better than him. And why Lefeged? What has he shown? Landry’s contract ends this year and he’s up for grabs, go get him.
And just because you sing Ted Ginn Jr, it doesn’t solve return problems. You can sign Devin Hester if you want, but if no one blocks up front, then he’s not going to get 5 yards.
And getting Luck, Poe & Jones…they’re all 1st rounders. How are you going to get three 1st round picks. Poe most likely won’t even declare, he’s most likely going to be in the 2013 NFL draft instead.
Pat McAfee 2012 Pro Bowl bound!

You guys
are trippin. The money is going to have to get spent somewhere. Why not put it into a line that will be around with luck for the next 10 yrs. Nothing like consistency in an O-line. Only one that would need replacing is Saturday in 2013 after he passes along his knowledge to the younger guys. DeSean offers so much in that one contract. Give him the money and use him just as Philly does. PR, offense, reverses, going deep, etc. Garcon is decent but his hands are suspect. Desean would command the #1 CB, Jones the #2, Garcon against the #3 CB would be a mismatch.
What you guys are failing to realize is if the Colts had a more consistent push up the middle it would minimize a need for a #1 CB. Put Haloti Ngota on the Colts line with Nevis Freeney and Mathis and you seriously reduce the amount of time the CBs have to cover. Jacob Lacey would even look decent.
As for Brown, I will gladly eat my words if he is given the #1 spot and he runs the ball consistently well. Do I need to remind you that Carter earned the #2 spot and the only thing that helped him lose his job was his fumbling. Just watch the next game and compare both of them.
I’m amazed at how many people DON’T have any suggestions, only criticisms. If you don’t agree what do you have better to offer?
I hope Mr. Irsay is reading these posts and at least thinks about other options. If we cant have a “dream team” at least we can get a dream team front office. This is just one option, I have many more. I still feel that a new coaching staff/scheme would get the most out of the players on the roster. Say what you want but the drafting on this team has been horrid since about 2006.
This team needs some drastic changes and btw if Mathis gets paid enough he will play..regardless of who stays and who goes.
