Who to Draft with the #3 pick?

With the colts on the cusp of losing out on the #1 pick, does anyone have ideas of who to draft in the #3 spot? I'd love to see Blackmon or maybe a db....

Kalil. If PM comes back, protection is a priority. Or trade down & stockpile picks.

Kalil is a BEAST. seen him play most of his career here in CA and he is nasty, and not in a bad snooki way. I also like the trade down as well since we need quality AND quantity. i love to dance with cleveland in the draft with two #1’s this year and maybe get a 3rd as well.

Blackmon.

He’d be able to replace Wayne… May be a better idea to just trade back and get another first rounder, Browns could be interested if they can’t trade up for Luck, then maybe they would settle for RGIII. I know, “why would they trade up 2 spots for RGIII?” Because it’s possible that the Jags could be looking for a new QB already, considering how awful Gabbert is and how little first rounders make now.

Richardson or Claiborne

A shut down corner would be nice or a stud running back of the caliber of the edge

strictly speaking,

i don’t think they need a running back. Brown has shown that behind a decent line he is at least serviceable, and as i understand it he has good hands. his pass protection has improved, too. add in carter, who will almost certainly improve (his fumbling issues can be coached out, as it has been a matter of knowing when to go down). they can afford to take a running back in the mid or late rounds to replace addai.

if we’re going offensive skill position, i’d rather take a WR than a RB.

the defense needs backs, particularly safety, and could use another stud tackle (the other being Nevis).

i hope we pick 4th actually...

that would mean we traded with Cleveland for someone they covet and we get two #1 draft picks, and at least a 3rd we need quality and quantity this year since this will be the Colts most important draft in the last 10 years. Whoever is the GM HAS TO nail every pick from round 1 – at least 5.

Is there any indication that Cleveland actually wants to trade up?

Of course everyone thinks of them because of their extra 1st from Atlanta, but has anyone actually associated with their team expressed interest in trading up for the #1 (or #2, etc.) pick?

It makes for a fun discussion, but it seems equally likely that The Ghost of Al Davis will trade his 1st and 2nd round picks from 2014-2019 to move up for the #1 or 2 pick. Or, perhaps Green Bay has felt that Matt Flynn has adequately prepared behind Aaron Rodgers (a la Rodgers with Favre), and they trade Rodgers to Indy for our #1 or 2 pick. Or, the Patriots trade their 23 extra draft picks they’ve acquired over the past years and deal them all to Indy for our pick.

Hypothetical situations add in new variables to make it fun, but until more details are revealed, I prefer to stick with the information we know, not what we think could happen. With that said, if we have the #1, I think it’s best to take Luck and address our QB situation through 2026. If we “only” get #2, and we retain our FA WRs, I believe the smart move is to take Kalil and give Manning the best o-line he’s ever had for his final few years; if we lose Wayne and/or Garçon, then taking Blackmon would be the best thing the team could do with the pick.

Just friendly advice… Fans who jump on sports blogs like this and educate us on hypothesis is a bit like telling someone not to get involved into watching a movie. sports is entertainment, nothing more. all this talk about who to take, who will be available, how good kalil will be is a guessing game… but a fun one. if you want 100% accurate, verifiable information you won’t find it ANYWHERE. So my suggestion… don’t insult people on here for their opinions to make your case. just enjoy the banter and debates since even the people I go back and forth on her with disagreements I still respect their opinion.

That being said… I do agree about Kalil. I think regardless what you do with Manning Kalil would strengthen the OL for 10 years (depending on performance and contract signability). I actually love Matt Flynn as a option here… young, mobile, good arm, experienced with working with top QB, HC, and OC. That won’t fly here since Colts fans want a sexy name back in the pocket however no one thought much of Brady and look at him now.

Cleveland would trade the farm for a franchise QB especially when this year they have the picks as leverage. Not only do you have the past as is their GM and past HC mentioned they were still on the fence with McCoy. They also tried to last year (this going off their own team reporters) and according to cleveland.com and another sports blog will be aggressive this year if they had a chance to get Luck after injuries to McCoy and their back-up being the journeyman Seneca Wallace. Fans on their forum and even their own beat writers have clamored for trading their picks to get Luck and I believe Cleveland will be the team that ultimately could control the top of the draft order. Even if they did want to give McCoy another year they would want to surround McCoy with talent and STILL would be open to dance if they had a shot at Blackmon who is surely to be gone by pick 4.

Blackmon scares the crap out of me. Look past the YouTube highlights and when you dig deeper it has been mentioned he as TO type of quirks. I don’t know about you but I don’t think Manning or Colts fans would accept a diva QB. We already have a DIVA GM and to some extent QB so tossing another strong personality into the mix would be volatile.

Colts pick 2nd if we win against Jacksonville

The Colts can only go to the number 2 pick this year. We win the tie breaker for the number 2 pick against Minnesota
