2012 Pro Bowl Rosters Revealed: Dwight Freeney Earns His Seventh Selection
The 2012 Pro Bowl rosters were announced at 7pm EST tonight via NFL Network. While the Pro Bowl usually serves to be more of a popularity contest than a true testament of "all-star" talent, it's still fun to see who gets to add the "Pro Bowler" designation to the beginning of their name.
This year, the Colts had only one Pro Bowl selection, DE Dwight Freeney, which shouldn't come as much of a surprise. I have to admit that I was disappointed (not shocked though) that Pat Angerer's breakout season was not rewarded after the fan voting. Angerer was second in fan voting among AFC linebackers.
The Patriots and 49ers earned the most player selections with eight. As for blatant snubs, the first that comes to mind is the exclusion of Giants WR Victor Cruz's stellar season.
Congratulations to all of the players who earned selections. Most of them are very well-deserved.
What would you change, if anything, about the Pro Bowl rosters?

Food for thought:
Freeney’s average season was rewarded over Mathis’, who had more sacks and more solo tackles. Oh, well.

I've felt Mathis has been better.

so
freeney is rarely doubled or even chipped
Freeney
I love the guy to death, but I just don’t feel he deserves it. Mathis was pretty good too

Did Victor Cruz really not make it?????
That’s terrible.

Yup.
Greg Jennings took the spot eye roll. Matt Stafford was screwed, as well. Yes, Eli has played out of his mind in some games this season, but what about Stafford? He took the Lions to their first playoff berth since ’99, has ten more TDs and 2 less INTS than Eli.
Snubbed.

Victor Cruz got screwed but
Eli Manning deserved Pro Bowl over Stafford. Manning doesn’t have Megatron. Eli Manning lost his favorite target in Kevin Boss this season and took an undrafted nobody named Jake Ballard and made him look like a star. This is Victor Cruz’s rookie season although he did play last season but was injured the whole year. Hakeem Nicks still drops balls and so does Mario Manningham plus Manningham has been injured for a large part of the season. Along with that, Ahmad Bradshaw has been injured too.
Point is, Eli Manning has I don’t know how many 4th quarter comebacks playing with limited weapons and was one of the only teams to go head to head with the Packers and come close to winning. Plus, it’s arguable that the Giants have had a tougher schedule than the Lions too.

And this is why I refuse to watch the Pro Bowl
It’s a bullshit game that has bullshit players in for a bullshit reason: Fan Voting. It’s favoritism. Im surprised Tebow’s not in it.

Mathis over Freeney would make more sense
Name recognition perhaps?

i couldnt agree more
I think Freeney is a better DE than mathis but Mathis played better this season than Freeney…Angerer was a stud too bad he didnt get it. and I guess thats about it..haha Mcafee kicked pretty good too
Pat Angerer
He really stepped up this year, and he led the league in tackles for about ten weeks. I was impressed with his play—it was definitely Pro-Bowl caliber.
Bethea???
I am surprised no one is upset he got snubbed although when Ed Reed and Troy are in the mix to it isn’t easy to pick him, but common.
Ed Reed
haven’t been THAT good this season. Eric Weddle have been better, but name recognition is so damn important.

Ed Reed
He’s been pretty damn good this season. Him or Weddle is nitpicking. I prefer Reed myself.

Angerer and Pat
Should have made it. Great MLB play and great punting. Freeney didn’t deserve it at all. Really didn’t have a good year (To put it in perspective, Freeney has 12 solo tackles and only 18 total, Angerer has 72 total and 132 total, Mathis has 27 solo, 41 total and one more sack than Freeney.)
To put Freeney’s year in perspective, he’s tied 28th in sacks and tied 523rd in tackles. I guess that pro-bowl numbers
Go figure
Pat have been great.
But noone beats Lechler. The Raiders may make a lot of strange decisions, but their ST is downright insane.
Numbers doesn’t tell the whole story btw. Freeney has been doubled or chipped in almost every game, while Mathis has not. I’m not saying Freeney has had a better season than Mathis, but we still need to take everything into account.

No Mathis?
I believe the only player deserving of a Pro Bowl is Mathis this year. Freeney under performed. Pat Angerer racked up the tackles, but tackling isn’t everything, he wasn’t Ray Lewis or Bart Scott. Pat McAfee should’ve been Pro Bowl bound but Lechler just had a terrific year with Oakland. Bethea played better last year so I’m not surprised he didn’t make the roster. But Mathis got snubbed and Freeney should’ve not made it.
