While not a huge baseball fan, I found the Albert Pujols "will-he-won't-he" contract situation fascinating. Well, news dropped today that Pujols will indeed depart from the only team that he's ever played for to play for the Los Angeles Angels. A player, who is considered by many to challenge for the title of GOAT, has moved on.
I couldn't help but conjure visions of what our own post-seasons will be like here in Coltsland. I understand the differences; Peyton is not a free agent, not for sure even healthy, and is not really involved in a bidding war. However, the main similarity is the most important one; a living legend leaving his only team to finish his career elsewhere.
I jumped over to the Cardinals SB Nation site, Viva El Birdos to see what the fan sentiment would be after the loss. Our off season may feel very much the same.
Interesting to read through the comments and see what Cardinals fans have to say about it. What do you think?
The caveats: I realize this has happened before (LeBron?), but I feel the similarities between Peyton and Pujols is much greater than that of LeBron; the NBA is kind of a different beast. It's also interesting that, in both cases, these two are considered the top 2 players in franchise history (Musial/Pujols, Unitas/Manning).
