The Best Player Available Argument

Stay connected for news and updates

This is basically a response to everyone out there posting against my drafting ideas.

The best player available (BPA) argument is a solid and easy way to draft football players. I agree with it but with a few exceptions.

There are several different options that you could go with on draft day:

1. Just draft the best player avaible no matter what your team needs are.

2. Draft for your team needs.

The best way to approach a draft is with both of these ideals. When I said that we should draft a LT at #22 instead of the BPA, I meant that we should solve our biggest need which is the offensive line. A wide receiver or defensive end wouldn't solve our problems of running the ball, stopping the run, and added pass protection, would it?

When you say just draft the BPA, you still have to address your needs on the O-line and at DT. Free agency is key when drafting by talent instead of need. I'm fine with this style of drafting as long as we fix our O-line problems and strengthen our DT corpse. Whether it be by the draft, free agency, or some other form of getting players, you have to address your teams biggest needs.

If you say draft the BPA, I don't know if you would solve our problems through free agency and such. I'm just going by the draft.
