Bob Sanders Signs One-Year Deal With Chargers
Per Adam Schefter:
Filed to ESPN: Former Colts safety Bob Sanders plans to sign a one-year deal tonight with the San Diego Chargers.
Can't imagine Indy wouldn't have offered to match that deal if they thought Sanders had anything left. This news should confirm the reason that Indianapolis cut Sanders: they firmly believe he's damaged goods and are attempting to move on. That Sanders couldn't land anything better than this one-year deal despite visits to Jacksonville, Buffalo and New York does not bode well for league confidence in his ability to stay healthy.
That said? As long as it doesn't harm the Colts, I wish Sanders the best in San Diego.

I'm Torn
I love bob and want him to do well, but…
I HATE THE CHARGERS!!! The thought of him wearing one of those stupid-piece-of-garbage-powder-blue-uniforms makes me sick!
I hope he does well. Stat-wise but the team goes 0-16.
The Indianapolis Colts are going to be the 1st team to win a super bowl in their own stadium. 'nuff said.
If we think he's damaged goods
wouldn’t you want him on the Pats or Jets?
Ugh!
Not many teams worse for him to join from a Colts fan standpoint. Hope he does well but his team doesn’t.
Colts interested in Eric Weddle???

Too hefty a contract, IMO but he is a durable tackling machine though.
But my preference has always been, get the underrated guy that will be great bang for the buck, and that to me is Eric Smith of the Jets, he will be cheaper than Otogwe or Weddle and has talent better than Bullitt, IMO.
No way it happens
Just speculation I think. Colts would have to give up a first and then sign him to a big contract. Like you said, too hefty.

True
Eric Weddle has a first round tender on him, so a team signing him would have to give a first round pick for him and a big fat contract, not happening with the Colts. I’d rather get Eric Smith from the NY Jets, who I think is more talented than Bullitt (though not a Weddle or Sanders), and will cost less than Otogwe or Weddle.
Also, if the Colts wanted to match the one year deal to Sanders, they would have, IMO. They really must think he is damaged goods, can we blame them? What concerns me is if Sanders stays healthy with the Chargers, what will it say about our medical evaluation staff because it will be two consecutive years (last year it was Lilja, this year it will be Sanders) that a player not deemed healthy for the Colts ends up playing a healthy year for another team? Besides, Sanders might have a better front seven to play behind as safety as well, that will be another plus, IMO.
I hate the Chargers.
Just saying.

If Bob Sanders wants to go play for money then that's fine for him.
It’s not like he hasn’t made enough here in Indianapolis, right?
I just died inside a little...
But not if he misses at least half the season
Back when I was picking beans in Guatemala, we used to make fresh coffee, right off the trees I mean. That was good. This is shit but, hey, I'm in a police station.

Sanders
If he makes through pre-season folks, that would be an accomplishment.
A one-year deal with a team like the Chargers after visiting, what, three other teams?
Bob is done, folks. He was done three years ago.

We’ll see what happens. Anything can happen and you should know that.
I'm with BBS here.
He has shown nothing in the past few years to justify any other conclusion than that reached in that comment.
He won’t last the year, the man simply isn’t durable.

Just wat #GoColtsDammit.com needed,a pissed off BobSanders playin4the extremely hard2beat Chargers! @ShaunPhillips95 yall wack4this man lol
I guess I’m happy for Bob that he got himself a contract. But now I definitely need a new jersey, no way I can wear a Sanders jersey when he is ‘playing’ for the Chargers. BBS, in a weird way I hope you’re right. I want Bob to be healthy, but I don’t want him to play against us.

Ughh
Atleast we don’t have to play against them this year, but I wish Bob Sanders the best as a Chargeless Charger,
Colts fan since Tony Dungy's 48th Birthday.

Figures
I like Bob Sanders the player, and I’m sure Bob Sanders the person is a good guy. Bob Sanders the businessman…he screwed the Colts out of 15 mil and then signs with a rival. Not a good offseason so far for the Colts.

I'm just glad we don't play him this year
except possibly in the playoffs, but I don’t think the Chargers are going to be that good this year.

Mathis is right
Bob Sanders in the playoffs against the Colts this coming season isn’t a good prospect.
Dungy name Bob ‘The Eraser’ and it wasn’t because of his hard hitting—it was because he erased the mistakes of his teammates.
If Mathis was watching Bob’s status and is disappointed in this, how can we not be? Obviously Mathis does not see Bob as done.
The Colts had problems with Bob’s health. I don’t think any of his injuries are career-threatening, honestly. I think he’ll play well and San Diego has a history of meeting, and beating, the Colts in the playoffs.
To me, it’s like a car you useds to own that had problems. The waterpump and then the friggin alternator, and then the ball joints and then the goddarn battery. So you sold it, went to confession to cleanse the evil you created by passing it to another owner. Then, years later, you run into the car and owner and it’s the best car he ever owned and when he dies he wants to be buried in it.
So... AJ Smith will want to be buried with Bob Sanders?
Yes, I suck at analogies.

As a COLTS fan in San Diego
It will be nice to see “BOB” every Sunday if he can play. But I dislike the Chargers more than the PATS, Texans, and Titans. It is like when the Colts take the field againist the “DOLTS” the Colts are almost miss matched againist them on every position. I just do not like the chargers or thier fans. I think I posted on here thier was a parade on the streets a real parade after our 07 loss to them in the playoffs. A real parade because of a playoff win. A parade you do not know how mad I am still about this. A parade this was not a championship game. It was a Divisional playoff game. A PARADE!!! So I can not stand the Chargers or a Charger fan. Now #21 is with them this is like kissing your sister.

I liked the Tweet someone sent Adam Schefter right after he announced the signing:
RT @UB32UNC: Sources say Bob Sanders breaks hand signing w/Chargers, out for season. … False. One-year deal signed without incident.
Check it to Pancakes! Pancakes!
The Colts: We play more football in the fourth quarter than some teams play all year!
My sources confirm....
that Sander tore a bicep while fist pumping upon completion of signing new contract. He was quoted as saying “I’m back baby, and at 100%. Fully heal……OWWWW!”

The Future
Soon you will all be thanking Bob for moving on and becoming someone else’s problem. There is not going to be some renaissance. And the idea of saving him “for the playoffs” is ridiculous. The guy would be rusty…but what’s the point in even discussing that. He won’t make it anywhere. Mike Lombardi was correct. Can you imagine the guy trying to make it all the way through training camp? He may have passed a physical, but that doesn’t involve hitting moving players. He is now there problem. For too long people have been considering him a good problem to have. That’s just not the case. I would take Melvin Bullitt and Antoine Bethea for 16 games over Bob Sanders for five games, or two games, or one quarter any day.
