Bob Sanders Stadium Banner Coming Down From Lucas Oil Stadium; Who Should Replace Him?
Note: Promoted and slightly edited from FanPosts. Please vote. --bbs
Now that Bob Sanders has signed with the HATED San Diego Chargers, that huge banner of him hanging outside of Lucas Oil Stadium must be torn down and given to me so that I may place it in my front yard. After that, a new banner must be put up to replace Bob's. Banners of Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark and Dwight Freeney already hang outside the stadium.
So the question is, who will be on this new banner?
Currently there are three offensive and one deffensive players, so maybe someone from Special Teams or the defense. If it's special teams, the only choice is Adam Vinatieri. But his former allegiance with the Patriots squashes that idea for me.
So, someone from the defense. Only three come to mind. Gary Brackett, Robert Mathis and Antoine Bethea. Brackett is the captain of the defense. Mathis, along with Freeney, form the most feared pass rushing duo in the NFL. Bethea is one of the best safeties in the league, and the most dependable player in the Colts secondary. Tough decision indeed. I'm leaning toward Mathis or Brackett. I couldn't argue if either one of them was put up there. Can't they just add more banners? No? OK, I'll go with Mathis.

I go with Bethea or Brackett.

I don't think most people would recognize Bethea
Everyone in Indy knows what Peyton, Dwight, Dallas, and Reggie look like, and they know they’re #18, 93, 44, and 87, respectively.
My point: if you asked 100 random Colt fans (which are mainly casual fans) who #41 is, or if they could pick Bethea out of a lineup, I don’t think nearly as many people would get him correct as they would with guys like Vinatieri, Addai, or Brackett.
For a gigantic banner on the Luke, I’m sure the marketing gurus want instant recognition by as many people as possible. If that’s the case, and the above choices are the only options, I’d go with Brackett, just to keep a balance between the number of people featured on offense and defense.
With that said, if I could put anyone on there, it’d be a gigantic picture of Irsay. With a sparkly blue top hat. Shirtless. Gun tucked in his waist. Happy trail on full display. Holding onto a potbelly pig. Standing in a gigantic tub of Cool Whip. Awesome.
I put on my robe and wizard hat.

Good Point
about Bethea. And the Irsay banner you describe sounds magnificent. Don’t know if the NoFunLeague would approve the gun though. Perhaps this…

That's what being underrated does to you

It's Vinateri or nobody.
Nothing against the other players, but nobody else is on the level of those other four. These players could all make a case for being the best in the league at their respective positions at some point in their careers. They don’t have to replace the banner at all. Bethea is great but he is never going to be all NFL first-team.
Two Words:
Ed Reed
But we’ve got to admit that’s some really good competition, in fact I’d take Bethea over any FS in the AFC not named Ed Reed…
Yep.
Although personally I don’t think the banners need to be somebody who is the best in the league. It’s the people who are most important to the Colts. Screw the rest of the league.

And I completely agree with you...
The banner should have a true Colt on it, regardless of being the best on his position…
By true Colt i mean a guy with high identification with the fans and that will stay (or have stayed with us) for a long time…
On the list the players that I think that really deserve the honor are Saturday, Bethea and Brackett, although i voted on Vinatieri at first, which was a mistake…
It was just bugging me, but it's not Antione it's Antoine lol
And anyways my vote goes to Brackett, Bethea or no one.
damn typing too fast.
i need to look at the keyboard more.

Bethea
Although Saturday would be a good option too. Both are veterans who are VERY important to the team and loved by fans.
The Indianapolis Colts are going to be the 1st team to win a super bowl in their own stadium. 'nuff said.
Bethea for sure
Addai, Bethea, Brackett, and Mathis are my fav. players on the team along with Clark, but since Dallas Clark is up there I need another one of my fav. there to compliment him

McAfee
I choose McAfee just because he’s exciting to see what will happen, his little swimming fiasco reminds me of Terrell Owens.
But all jokes aside, I’d say Gary Brackett. He’s the defensive captain, he’s well known in Indy, while I wish it was Bethea, but people just don’t know him. Before this past season, if you put all the secondary together, the only person I would notice would’ve been Bob Sanders and Kelvin Hayden. So I’d say Brackett.
But what about Mr. Clutch Adam Vinatieri? The most consistent Colt and the most consistent kicker. I was worried when Mike Vanderjagt left after that Steelers game, but now Mike who? I voted for Vinatieri but I think it’ll be Brackett going up.
But who cares, many Colts deserve it including Bethea, Garcon, Addai, Collie, etc. As long as it ain’t Francisco, Dawson or Hughes, it’s all good.
