The more and more I look at the Colts draft and hear Polian is approaching the draft as if all our free agents are gone I think we trade down a few picks and gain a 3rd & 5th. I just don't believe there is anyone there that is going to be way better then who we will get a few picks later unless someone like Julio Jones or Corey Liuget slip. So, with that in mind here we go.
st - Derek Sherrod - OT (Miss. St.). I think this is the person who the Colts want. Better at pass protection then run blocking but athletic enough to be effective. Good zone blocker, good character, and could develop into a solid LT.
nd - Mike Leshoure - RB (Illinois). Part of me doesn't believe that he will be here when we pick but I think he could be a solid replacement for Addai. Has good explosion, tough in between the tackles, and has adequate speed. His pass protection could use some work, but he has the size to develop in that area.
More after the jump . . .
rd - Greg Little - WR (North Carolina). If you watch some of the clips from two seasons ago (was suspended last year) and on YouTube you see that this guy has some explosion. He needs to work on his route running but could easily develop into solid starting WR.
rd (Obtained from trade) - Drake Nevis - DT (LSU). We are going to take a DT with two of our being FA's. Nevis is a little short but has great explosion and is a tough player. Would be a great fit next to Moala.
th - Da'Norris Searcy - S (North Carolina). I love Lefeged but his stock seems to be rising so I will take Searcy here. Searcy has great instincts and seems to have a great feel for the game. He's actually rated higher on most boards then highly touted teammate Deunta Williams. I don't think you can plug Searcy in from Day 1 but could develop into a starter by year two.
th - Zack Hurd - OG (UConn). Hurd is everything the Colts look for in an OL. He's smart, team leader, and plays tough. Could challenge from day one and adds depth.
th (Obtained from trade) - Douglas Hogue - OLB (Syracuse). I absolutely love this player. Good instincts, can rush the passer, solid tackler, and can produce interceptions. Great depth and special teams player.
th - Byron Bell - OT (New Mexico). The Colts have shown interest in him and could draft him for depth and let him develop into a solid ROT.
