This is waaaaaaaay in the future, but there's a lockout going on right now. I need something to do, and you need something to read.
So read this.
What position do you think will be addressed come draft day in 2012?
I think I have an idea of what we will draft, but again this could all be 100% totally wrong, and it probably will be. So for now, just enjoy the post and tell me what you guys think.
Since I'm banking on Indianapolis winning the super bowl this year, we will have the last pick in the draft.
There's a lot of different ways we can go.
Since we will have the last pick in the draft, we might go with the best player available.
We might try to give Peyton some more weapons to work with.
We might try to help the defense out for once.
I really have no idea.
As of right now we need safety help, but that could all be fixed when free agency starts. I really want to grab Quintin Mikell. Imagine Antoine Bethea and Quintin Mikell both playing safety for our team. I love it.
We need some sort of defensive tackle. Dan Muir is awful, and I'm not real sure if Antonio Johnson is coming back. Cross your fingers for Drake Nevis being a steal. You never know what he could turn out to be.
I wouldn't mind seeing a first round corner, but that depends on how Kevin Thomas turns out, if Hayden sticks around, if other guys can stay healthy, and if Justin Tryon isn't a one year wonder. You can never have too many corners, and especially first round corners at that. But hey, ask Marlin Jackson how that worked out. Hayden is way overpaid, just saying.
Linebackers are young and fresh as of right now. I see potential, and a lot of it, but when has Indianapolis drafted a high round linebacker. Exactly. It's been a while. We seem to find some productivity in later rounds and I'm not saying talent can't be found in the later rounds of the draft. I'm just saying I don't think Indianapolis has really ever addressed linebacker as a dying need. Brackett is overpaid, and not as productive as one might think. He's the fifth worst tackling linebacker in the league. Sorry BBS I stole that fact from you.
Defensive end is one of my favorite positions. I love the pass rush, and a sack is such a huge play. As of right now we're set at that position, but for how much longer? Both Freeney and Mathis are productive, but they might need a successor soon. Hughes didn't show too much his first year, but what did you really expect? How much longer will Indianapolis have that once in a lifetime defensive end duo? That's a question that might be asked during draft day.
Offensively we need some things as well.
We just got offensive line help, so I'm hoping that all works out up front. This is a toss up, and I hope everything turns out just fine.
In terms of getting a quarterback well..Peyton is getting a little older. We should probably look to find his successor sometime soon. I don't think in the 2012 draft, but maybe the one after that. Again, that all depends on how long Peyton's contract is, how he feels, and how long he actually wants to play football.
I like our tight end situation as of right now. Especially, with the emergence of Jacob Tamme. Dallas Clark is Dallas freakin' Clark people. He's a stud. I think we're pretty good in that spot. Maybe we draft one a few year's from now?
Running back is sort of a weird situation. I think we need to see how we play this year with the new offensive line, and what not. Any runner can run if he has holes to run through. That being said, I don't know if Addai sticks around, but I hope he does. Donald Brown hasn't played up to par, but he's had a few bright moments. We did just draft Delone Carter who I'm high on, but he hasn't played a down in the game yet. I don't know about this position. It's sort of a toss up, but I'm sure we'll know by the end of this season what position needs to be filled. This could be where the best player available comes in.
Lastly, I think we need to go in this direction. Wide receiver. Reggie Wayne has been awesome for us. However, when does a wide receiver run out of gas? Not saying he has yet, but the time will be coming rather quickly. We need his replacement. Especially with the uncertainty of the health of Anthony Gonzalez. Collie has health problems too, but everything I've been reading lately about him has been fantastic. Interesting stuff about Pierre Garcon though. I don't think people give him enough credit sometimes. He is young, and he does drop balls sometimes, but he's a fairly productive weapon in our system. I love his swagger and his physical play for a wide receiver. He seems to do better towards the end of the year, and he's pretty clutch I would say. He was a beast during our playoff run when we went to the super bowl. With all that being said, I think this is the direction we should go. It's a good wide receiver draft class this year, and besides Reggie I don't know if the other guys are number one receivers.
Again, this all depends on how the season goes for us this year.
Nobody knows what's going to happen.
This is purely speculation, and just me trying to give you guys something to read about during these hard football times.
Hope you enjoyed it, and as always..
