Ed Reed makes stupid comment involving Manning

Well not necessarily at Manning, but involving our beloved Peyton Manning.  Recently in an interview with ESPN, Ed Reed discussed his thoughts on Manning having recent MINOR neck surgeries.

more after the jump

Star-divide

I don’t want to be like these guys having neck surgery, then you got to go have another surgery just to continue to play this game, I love this game but I love myself more.

also this:

Asked specifically whether he’d do the same thing that Manning has done, having neck surgeries in each of the last two offseasons, Reed was emphatic that he wouldn’t, saying “no” five times.

“No, no,” Reed said. “I mean, no. No. No, not my neck.”

ok give me a break Ed. It's not like Manning is doing this surgery just so he can crawl back onto the field. Its not like Manning is selling his body just to continue to play. Stop playing Manning off as 'desperate' just to play.

Sorry I know this isn't the biggest story in the world, but this really got on my nerves.

He wants Manning retired to win something.

Though, they won’t win anything with Joe “3 and out”.

How is this stupid

Ed Reed is basically saying that he wouldn’t have the procedures done that Manning is. First of all, Ed probably doesn’t know exactly what procedure Manning had done. Ed’s injury seemed to be more serious (landing him on PUP to being 2010), and he’s talked about retirement as recent as after the playoff loss to the Colts in 2009. Plus, he plays a more physical position.

Ed Reed and Peyton have a mutual respect for each other. Ed Reed’s not gonna go on ESPN and bash Manning for getting two surgeries to play.

Im not saying that Ed Reed is attacking Manning or anything

My point was that this is a dumb comment because it implies that Manning loves the ‘game more than himself’.

He implies this in this quote:

“you got to go have another surgery just to continue to play this game, I love this game but I love myself more.”

It also implies that Manning’s surgery is some type of big surgery that was 100 percent necessary for Manning to continue to play. As I recall it was to alleviate some pain shooting down his arm. Now that is essential to playing since Manning is a QB, but its not as though Manning ran into the doctor and yelled at them to rip his arm off and give him a mechanical arm just so he can continue playing.

Dont get me wrong I really like Ed Reed. I have the utmost respect for him, and I know Ed Reed and Manning are friends and respect each other. I guess ‘dumb’ was the wrong word to use. Maybe Ed was just being a little overly dramatic.

"I bet Eli doesn't even have one touchdown today, ... I'm the best Manning."

Since when is it a crime to love the game more than yourself? You basically just said Manning loves the game, anything wrong with that?

Also have to consider that Reed is playing defense where he comes in contact alot. I can’t even remember the last time Manning was sacked, lol. Reed has publicly stated that his injury could lead to serious issues, even paralysis. Not exactly the thing you want when trying to hit Peyton Hillis.

Flacco's first 3 years vs. Brady's, Manning's and Brees' first 3 years

Flacco threw for just 21 fewer passing yards than Brady and tossed four fewer interceptions. Flacco threw for 1,655 more yards than Brees, two more touchdowns and four fewer picks. Manning, who averaged 88 more passes per season, threw for way more yards and touchdowns than Flacco, but also tossed 24 more interceptions.

Is he not allowed an opinion?

Nothing wrong with what he’s saying at all.

Losses to the Colts aren't because of Reed though.

In the 2006 Divisional game Ed Reed was easily the best player on the field.

He’s actually been pretty good against the Colts in his career.

he had that sick interception

and then he flipped it inbounds as he was falling out to his guy and his guy was returning it but they called Reed out. in the 2006 game

Ed Reed is a bad dude

Ed Reed is one of the few DBs that really scare me when the colts play them. Reed has had some pretty phenominal plays and INTs against Manning, He has my respect.

they asked a veteran safety that probably has the Hall of Fame locked up if he would have neck surgery

I’m surprised Reed only said no 5 times. I probably would have been more dramatic about the noes like this:
