ProFootball Weekly Still In Colts Camp Despite Being Underdogs
Here's the article:
Okay, so maybe not exactly underdogs, but not favored in games that they would normally be favored in. This is all based on the spread provided by Cantor Gaming for the season.
For example, Colts open up the season as a 1 point underdog to Houston. I guess that's plausible, given how Houston last year ran thru us like a bull through tissue paper. According to Cantor, we're favored in all but four games, including New England (6.5 point underdog) and Baltimore (4 point underdog).
The article does mention that rash of injuries we had last year, and how we still made it to the playoffs. But to me this is sort of the story we're going to hear over the next 6 years (okay, 7) before Manning retires. Each year we don't win another SB, people are going to ask if we are not the same team anymore.
Honestly, while I've read stories on SB and other places that Manning is getting older and maybe not quite as sharp, I like to think that he's settling into a comfortable place and will have a streak of two more SB's before he retires. We all know that if Manning had the time that Brady has in the pocket, Manning would torch pretty much every defense. If Collie, Clark, Wayne, Garcon, Gonzalez, and Burress (oh yeauhhh!) stay healthy, it's going to be a great season.
Speaking of season, I happened to be in Chicago at the OHare Hilton last week for a meeting. Two doors down the hall from me was a sign saying "NFLPA Subcommittee Meeting". I peaked in the peephole but didn't see anyone I recognized.
Back to reality - first and foremost, we've gotten part of what we wanted this year - a bit of a bump up in our offensive line. We have a "bowling ball" running back rookie that could be useful to punch in those 3rd and 2 plays. I think we're entering into a phase II of Colts success.
What do you guys think?
