Holy mother of all that is sweet, Jamie Dukes is an idiot.
Good god. Okay how many people watch NFL Network? I love NFL network. It's easily my favorite network to watch. From all the classic NFL films to series like NFL's Top Ten and America's game, the NFL network is worth every penny. Throw it great analysts like Rich Eisen, Steve Mariucci, Michael Irvin, Rod Woodson, Mike Mayock, Brian Baldinger, Kurt Warner, and even Warren Sapp from time to time, and the NFL network becomes must see TV for any avid football fan.
But good googly moogly they need to get rid of Jamie Dukes.
Now for those who don't know who Jamie Dukes, let me explain.
Jaimie is an analyst for NFL network (a former mediocre center for the falcons) who is featured rather often on many of the networks shows, mainly NFL Total Access.
Jaimie is known for being brash, loud, and in mu poinion ignorant on many subjects. Maybe not ignorant but he is usually pretty biased in his opinion. He has always favored Tom Brady over Manning, and he never really believed much in the Colts.
Now I have been following the NFL top 100 players of 2011 very closely now, and for the past couple of weeks every time Jamie Dukes opens his mouth he sounds like an idiot. A lot of it recently hasn't been Colts related whith one of the most unproffesional instances coming last week when DeMarcus Ware was on the show.
Jamie wouldn't shut his fat mouth on how DeMarcus Ware wasn't a leader, and how his stats didn't mean as much because the rest of his defense wasn't on his level. It was ridiculous, and DeMarcus Ware was insulted by it.
As a fan kindly put it on the NFL.com top 100 players blog
Did anyone hear Jamie Dukes dissing Demarcus Ware because of Dallas' team defense? It was unreal. He's lucky Ware didn't tear his limbs off.
But anyway that is all to just give you an idea of what type of guy Jamie Dukes is. What has me writing this fanpost is his latest rant on NFL Total Access.
When asked about who was better between Manning and Brady, Jamie goes on some huge rant about how Peyton has been surrounded with 8-9 1st round picks. Fran Charles, another anylyst, promptly points out that just because a person is a first round pick doesn't mean they are good. But no this doesn't stop Jaimie, as a matter of fact Jamie just ignores this and begins to yell louder. He starts to list the '8-9' players and starts with Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Edgerrin James, and he even has the nerve to throw Marshall Faulk in there.
MARSHALL FAULK!!!! Mannign played with Faulk for one season!! ONE FREAKIN SEASON!
Then Jamie goes to point out how Brady has done the more impressive job because he has "Made chicken salad, out of chicken stuffing." I apologize for the language, but what the fuck does that mean? I mean it is so ignorant. I don't mind people trying to make an argument for Brady, but please try and be smart about it. Personally as BBS said the argument is pretty much over for now. I don't even get into the argument anymore because it's silly. All I will say is that you measure AN INDIVIDUAL based on how much more he dominates his position in comparison to other QB's throughout history. Nobody has dominated the QB position like Manning, thus Manning is better. Simple as that. Yea Brady has more super bowls, but winning the Super Bowl is a team thing. Not an idividual accomplishment. I'll admit Brady turns it on in the playoffs (well not so much recenlty) but Manning DOMINATES the QB position like none other. Therefore he is the better QB.

Here are the "8-9" 1st round picks
1999: Edgerrin James
2001: Reggie Wayne
2003: Dallas Clark
2006: Joe Addai
2007: Anthony Gonzalez
2009: Donald Brown
That’s six. They didn’t “surround” Manning with Marv or Marshall (who was there for a year), since those guys preceeded Manning. Plus, just because those guys were 1st round picks doesn’t automatically make them great. Manning helps make those guys great players.
EVH+DLR=BFFs........ God I Hope So!!
first round picks aren't automatically good
but they have the highest success rate of any round in the draft, so it isn’t something to wave off lol
however, most analysts are idiots, so of course they are going to say stupid things that make people mad
and your Colts didn’t have any first rounders in 2004 and 2008, and the first picks they had in those drafts were a center (2008) and Bob Sanders (2004).
I’m not going to start any Manning-Brady thing here (cause already am elsewhere lol) but he definitely has been given a plethora of first round picks around him. that isn’t debatable. and didn’t they just spend a first rounder on an offensive tackle, yet another offensive player?

like I said I don't mind people arguing for Brady
But let’s try and come up with a more legit argument other than “Oh Manning has a couple of first round draft picks.”
That argument is terrible.
I’ve already gave a brief reason as to why Manning is better in my initial fanpost. Feel free to read it.
"I bet Eli doesn't even have one touchdown today, ... I'm the best Manning."

that argument isn't terrible, as long as it isn't the only argument
I was backing you guys up, while also helping clarify some stuff.
I don’t get why you throw out every single argument that makes Manning look less than perfect. I accept that Brady has had a better defense and his coach doesn’t draft all his picks for Manning to excel. But that is a difference in the way the teams are built. If you took the time to see how yours was, you would see why Patriots fans don’t cut Manning the slack you all do.

the argument is horrible, just as horrible...
as the “cassel led the pats to 11-5 record” argument. they’re both horrible because the people making those arguments know deep down that both are flawed….and the only reason they make them is in attempt to win an argument.
using your logic ben watson will be telling his grandchildren that he would have had a better career if he his qb wouldn’t have been a lowly 7th rd pick.

funny thing is
Edge wasn’t with the team the year they went to the superbowl. Neither was Marshall Faulk, and Harrison was on the downside of his career (even though he still had a good season in 2006)
Plus Anthony Gonzalez and Donald Brown aren’t good players ‘yet’.
And Joe Addai is a great player but I’m not sure how many other teams would agree.
Actually Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, and (partially) Joseph Addai are the only 1st round picks (offensive) that played in the Colts two super bowl seasons. So looks like Manning got to the superbowls without much of his 1st round weapons.
Wonder what Dukes would say against that.
"I bet Eli doesn't even have one touchdown today, ... I'm the best Manning."
he'd start yelling even more!

It's laughable...
People come up with new reasons to bash Manning every single year, and yet he always proves him wrong. Couldn’t beat the Patriots? See: 2006 AFC Championship Game. Couldn’t win the big one? See: 2006 SuperBowl ring. Isn’t a playoff QB like Tom Brady? Peyton has a higher playoff QB rating than Brady. Only succeeds because of the stars around him? See: Collie, Austin. White, Blair. Tamme, Jacob. Garcon, Pierre. 8 different no-name RB’s and no OLine.
What I don’t understand about this argument is this: No QB can put up ridiculous numbers without their WR(s) putting up ridiculous numbers. Honestly, somebody please list all the 4,000 yard QB’s that haven’t had WR’s put up great numbers. Or all the 35+ TD QB’s that haven’t had a 10+ TD WR. I’m sure it happens every once in awhile: but the point is, if the QB is going to gash defenses year in and year out, the WR’s are going to reap the benefits.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, and Dallas Clarke are phenomenal players. But if we put them on the Buffalo Bills, we aren’t talking about some of the best in the league at their respective positions. Numbers dictate that. And if Peyton Manning is putting up numbers, well…so are our WR’s.

so one season (last year) is enough to say Manning can succeed without stars around him?
because didn’t he throw like 11 interceptions in a 3 game span? didn’t he have Reggie Wayne? doesn’t he play in a crap-shoot division where the only team that was competitive this year (the Texans) had their first season ever with a winning record?
The dude is a complete animal. He is by far the most machine-like player I’ve seen (next closest is probably Ray Lewis). The dude lives and breathes football and the fact that he pretty much runs his own offense is astounding. However, let’s not get carried away thinking that he does everything by himself (I know you didn’t say that). I get tired (as a former athlete) of people knocking Manning’s teammates and saying Manning is the only good player and he does it all by himself. It is such a disgrace to the game of football to suggest that one guy does it all, especially when that guy is a quarterback that is not really a scrambler (yes, I saw that awesome run he had against the Raiders…was it the Raiders, that awesome fake?) I can appreciate a talent like Manning, but he gets ruined for me when people degrade his teammates, people that are doing their best to help him succeed, for no reason other than because they love Manning so much. It is sickening. It is sickening for a player to act that way, and it is the same for the fans. These players are doing their best to help. Injuries happen. Some teams got injured more than others last year (like the Super Bowl champion Packers). It just happens. But to hate on your own team because of one guy? Come on. I would want more championships too if I was a Colts fan, but I wouldn’t take the time to bash every single player (and coach, and gm) along the way. It doesn’t fix anything. Offer solutions. Offer reasons why you want something fixed. From my perspective, somebody change your defensive philosophy. It only worked one time in Manning’s tenure. Hate the way the team is built, but don’t hate the guys that are put in the positions.

I've been a diehard Colts fan....
But I try not to be biased. In fact, if you ask many people around here, I’ll be the first to disagree with positive Colts’ statements.
And honestly, Peyton’s had a mixed bag. Yes, he’s had more weapons over the years than Brady, but as stated above – Manning makes Wayne, Clark, Collie, Harrison, White, Gonzo, Tamme Garcon much more than they make him.
The past 3 years – he’s had NO semblence of a running game. No offensive line to protect him (ignore the sack totals, watch the games and you’ll agree), and an average-at-best defense. Not to mention the most injured team of the past 5 seasons. What did he make of it? 2 MVP’s and a trip to the SuperBowl, winning 10+ games every year.
Over the past 5 years, it hasn’t been Peyton Manning letting his team down. It’s been the defense, the special teams, the offensive line & the coaching – all of which happen to be the exact reasons why Brady has 3 SB rings (and his play, of course). I understand your argument that Manning’s had more weapons, afterall, it is a team sport. Yet if you take the team-aspect out of the equation (win %, SB wins), Brady really doesn’t compare to Manning. Like I’ve said, Manning’s done his part to win 3 or 4 SuperBowls. And while Brady has 3 rings, I’m not sure he’s been much more deserving of those than Manning.

I watched the Colts this year
and I (obviously) watched the Patriots.
Want to know a primary difference between Brady and Manning? Brady is willing to take a sack and avoid throwing a stupid pass that gets picked off and Manning isn’t. I don’t care how bad Manning’s line was last year, he still threw way too many passes that he shouldn’t have just because he wasn’t willing to get hit. If it was because of a contract year then fine, he wanted to protect himself to make bank. But that is what happened last year.
It is funny that people say Brady has only been “elite” (whatever that means since their is no objective measure just opinion) for a couple of seasons but then act like Manning has had to deal with no offensive line and no running game for his whole darn career. It is hypocritical and ruins a good debate.
You can feel free to feel the way you do about Brady’s rings. Point is he has them and Manning doesn’t.

We aren't talking about 2010
If we want to talk just one season, then Brady is clearly better, no argument needed. But referencing Manning’s worst 3 game stretch of his career isn’t going to hold much merit when discussing a 12 year career.
And I definitely agree that at times, Brady is willing to take a sack, or throw the ball away, whereas Manning has to try and force it. But that’s more a product of the teams – Brady has relied on a tremendous Defense/ST/Coaching staff over the years. He doesn’t have to make every throw, every play. Peyton does. His defense isn’t shutting teams down. His special teams isn’t making those momentum-changing plays. His coaching staff ain’t out-scheming the opposition. In fact, his defense has given up 4th quarter leads EACH OF THE PAST 5 POST-SEASON LOSSES! The only real memorable kick for the Colts over the years was Vandershank’s kick that sent the Steelers to the SuperBowl. And all Jim Caldwell has done in 2 years is get out-coached in his only SuperBowl, and blow a playoff win with a dumbfounding timeout. So maybe cut Manning a little slack if & when he feels like he needs to put the team on his back.

You both make good points
And I definitely agree you can’t give Manning all the credit when the team plays well, nor can you ignore the times that he contributes to the team playing poorly.
As with many postseason games, one play here and one play there could have made this team a 2-3 SB winning team and Manning shares in some of that just as the rest of the team does.
I don't always drink beer....but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis.
Manning throws the ball away ALL the time
LAst season with ALL the inuries and the losing streak, it definitely looked and fealt liek he was foricng it at times. Cuz he HAD to force it at times

alright well you just lost credibility
The fact that you are saying Manning tried forcing passes because he wasn’t willing ot get hit is beyond ridiculous.
He forced passes because his team was complete and utter crap last season. He had absolutely no help last season, and he had to force passes if he wanted to win, and get his team to the playoffs, which he did almost by himself.
To say he forced passes just to avoid hits is silly and shows you don’t really know too much about the Colts last season.
nice try though.

The Colts have gone 13-3 and 12-4 with guys like Devin Aromashadu and Aaron Moorehead as the #2-#3 receivers
BTW, Austin Collie is a 4th round pick. Pierre Garcon is a 6th round pick. Collie is good, but Manning makes Garcon look better.

let's be honest.....
As a truly devoted Colts fan I have to say that I don’t subscribe to the notion that Manning does “more with less” than any QB in the league. That’s is BULL@#$@#. Dukes has a point, the Colts have used high draft picks to make sure that Manning has the weapons he needs to be successful. It is true……..but let’s be honest…..‘IT ONLY MAKES SENSE!" That’s why you have a draft…….. Wayne, James, Clark, Gonzalez (even though he really has done anything, he still was a 1st round pick) Addai, Brown, Constanzo to name a few were good picks (high picks). Well maybe not Brown especially with McCoy on the board……I don’t think that Dukes is an idiot by pointing out the OBVIOUS!. Although, It has been amazing that Brady got it done with dudes like Givens, Brown, Branch…..but hey…….that’s just the way it goes. It doesn’t mean that Manning isn’t a GREAT QB…..he is a 1st ballot HOF QB. (Brady is a 1st ballot HOF too). OH, I forgot…..Manning hasn’t made any one player great………they have all worked together (and worked hard) to become sucessful…..let’s get that straight………
That's because many Colts fans are new guys who are Manning fans at first.
They will turn any criticism from Peyton toward the team. They say not only that he makes his receivers and his o line. You can actually see arguments on Stampede Blue, that Manning is responsible for the improvement of the defense too.:)
And watch this fan post. What is the biggest sin, the ultimate one, which has the biggest emphasis?
Jaimie is known for being brash, loud, and in mu poinion ignorant on many subjects. Maybe not ignorant but he is usually pretty biased in his opinion. He has always favored Tom Brady over Manning, and he never really believed much in the Colts.
Jamie Dukes “alway” thought Brady was better than Manning. And if you think this you must be ignorant, or bias. From that point there is no chance to argue. If you put anything: game films, stats, really anything: does not matter. If you argue for the “other guy” your opinion must be at least bias, so it does not have any value. That’s a pretty comfortable position. to win any debate without even trying.:)
It works like the church: you share the belief or you do not belong, therefor your opinion does not count.:)

BTW, for the Pats:
1999 1st Rd Pick – Damien Woody ©
2000 2nd Rd Pick – Adrien Klemm (G)
2001 2nd Rd Pick – Matt Light (T)
2002 1st Rd Pick – Daniel Graham (TE)
2002 2nd Rd Pick – Dieon Branch (WR)
2003 2nd Rd Pick – Bethel Johnson (WR)
2004 1st Rd Pick – Ben Watson (TE)
2005 1st Rd Pick – Logan Mankins (G)
2006 1st Rd Pick – Laurence Maroney (RB)
2006 2nd Rd Pick – Chad Jackson (WR)
The Pats have picked a ton of offensive players early. Yes, fewer skill position guys, but their line has also consistently been better in large part due to this drafting.
EVH+DLR=BFFs........ God I Hope So!!
ha I like how you changed the criteriaand included 1999
2000- no first round pick because of Belichick coming to the Patriots from the Jets
2001- Richard Seymour
2002- Daniel Graham
2003- Ty Warren
2004- Vince Wilfork
2004- Benjamin Watson
2005- Logan Mankins
2006- Laurence Maroney
2007- Brandon Meriweather
2008- Jerod Mayo
2009- None (but picked Pat Chung at 34th)
2010- Devin McCourty
2011- Nate Solder
Now if you look at the picks they have picked with the firsts, it isn’t nearly the same as the Colts did. That you compiled that list to make it look different from the point is funny. First-round talent. Not whoever you want to choose.

I'll put up the Colts list of players that they picked in the second round as well.
1998 2nd Rd Pick – Jerome Pathon (WR)
2007 2nd Rd Pick – Tony Ugoh (T)
2008 2nd Rd Pick – Mike Pollak (G)
That’s it.

I’ve always found Warren Sapp the most annoying of the NFL Total Access Crew. On the top 100 countdown, he didn’t even have Manning listed in his top 10.

Jamie Dukes adds nothing to NFLN
Whether or not he occasionally spouts something I agree with (like this instance, although historically he’s a Pats hater) he adds nothing of value to any show he’s on.
Before he lost all that weight he at least used to be funny, now he’s just an irritant, stubbornly sticking to his own opinions and biases without any substance behind his rants. And the weight is creeping back on anyway – without the accompanying humor. He’s useless.
Keep the faith!
Did you see the Top 100 reaction show with him and DeMarcus Ware on it?
He was killing DeMarcus the whole time for not being a leader. It seemed really obvious that DeMarcus was pissed off at him. I was hoping it would escalate into a Jim Rome/Jim Everett situation.
EVH+DLR=BFFs........ God I Hope So!!
1st round picks....
last time i checked, every team in the nfl gets a 1st round pick in the draft every single year, it is up to them what they do with it. Even the pats have 1st round picks, and if Jamie Dukes is ignorant to infer, believe, or simply imply that the patriots don’t get 1st round picks, then he is an even bigger idiot than people seem to think. Not to mention the fact the the patriots were still an 11 win team without brady, what would the colts be without Manning? For someone to actually say the colts only win because manning has 8 or 9 first rounders around him is idiotic..
