The Pierre Garcon and Steve Johnson Story

The Steve Johnson, Pierre Garcon Story
It was the 2008 NFL Draft, and it was our choice. It was the 6th round / 205th overall pick, and either way we were going receiver... but whom? Speedster and deep threat Pierre Garcon, good route running playmaker Stevie Johnson, or Brett Swain, another good route runner. Who did the Colts take...?
Leading up to the draft, the Colts were one year removed from the departure of Brandon Stokely, and Marvin Harrison was declining and becoming injury prone. The only good receiver on the team was Reggie Wayne, and up-and-comer Anthony Gonzalez. The only problem was that Gonzalez was a better slot-back receiver than an outside receiver. With that being said, the Colts needed a good, fast outside receiver. Steve Johnson and Pierre Garcon were both projected to go in the 6th-7th round. When the 205th pick came around, Johnson and Garcon were two of the best players still on the board. Both players fit our system better, but the difference was that Garcon could play kick returner. Garcon was also faster, but Johnson was the better route runner. A major reason for why the Colts drafted Garcon instead of Johnson is because the Colts already had a fantastic route runner in Reggie Wayne and Gonzalez. They needed that deep threat guy; they need that guy who Peyton can go to if they need a big play. With that being said, this pick was going to be interesting.
With the 205th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Colts decided to take... Pierre Garcon. It was a risky pick, because Garcon was from a small school, and Steve Johnson went to Kentucky. In their rookie years, they both didn’t play. Their 2nd years were different. Pierre became a starter, and Steve stayed on the bench. Garcon caught 47 passes for 765 yards and 4 touchdowns. This past year was interesting. Steve became a starter and had over 1000 receiving yards. Pierre missed a couple of the earlier games in the season. This next season will show us who is better. Do you think this was a good pick?

I'm happy with garcon
I dont know how much more we could ask from a 6th rounder.
He’s turning out pretty good.
The Indianapolis Colts are going to be the 1st team to win a super bowl in their own stadium. 'nuff said.
Question is...
Who has better hands?
I don’t care how fast a WR is or how good your blocking is, at the end of the day you gotta catch balls or else your speed does nothing for you as a receiver. Pierre’s a good dude and seems like he works at it, but that consistancy in catching the ball is still missing from his game.
Garcon definitely...
…has much better hands than steve johnson. Though Garcon has his share of drops, steve johnson had more drops at cruxial moments, not to mention the time where he dropped a wide open touchdown that would have allowed the Bills to beat the Steelers in Overtime/..
Let's not forget that sometimes he has amazing hands...
And sometimes he drops the ball. But his upside>his downside

not sure
how you know how and why each player was drafted and who were the top players on the colts board
I'm sure he's using
the ESPN draft boards/rankings/whatever that Mel Kiper & co. come up with.

he's 6 ft, 200 lbs
I can’t imagine he has any weight to lose that isn’t muscle.

i disagree
i dont think weight is his problem. i just think he needs to work on his routes more
Garcon was the better picky
Pierre Garcon can possibly go down as one of the best draft steals, in just his first start Manning turned Garcon into a deep threat in 2009. While he might not have the best hands on the team, he is the most promising WR.
With more consistency and better route running, Garcon can easily turn into a Top 10 wideout in the league. I know Garcon struggled a lot with catching the ball but has been quite clutch when going 30+ yards or deeper and most likely would have caught that game-winning TD that Steven Johnson dropped against the Steelers in overtime (mentioned earlier by peytonman)
Colts fan since Tony Dungy's 48th Birthday.
Free will is an illusion, but pragmatically, the illusion of self (ego), choice, freedom, consciousness, are all necessary for the game or struggle to move. No struggle, no universe.
I am the most die-hard Colts fan in the city and state of New Orleans, Louisiana
