Colts Jacob Lacey Was At Walkthrough This Morning, Looked Fine
Paul Kuharsky was at Colts training camp this morning, and he tweeted some potentially good news:
Jacob Lacey is at #Colts walkthrough this morn. Nothing on him revealing Tuesday injury.
While most of us feel that Lacey is probably not the best option as the starter at corner, there's no debate that he is an important player for this team in terms of depth.
Unlike other positions, I actually don't feel as anxious about corner despite the release of Kelvin Hayden. Jerraud Powers is the best corner this team has had the last three years, and keeping him healthy is a priority. I'm actually very interested in seeing what Kevin Thomas and Chris Rucker bring in preseason. Thomas (6', 191) and Rucker (6'1, 200) are big cover corners that can run. We plan to follow their development closely in preseason.
If the Colts need another body at corner, former Patriots and Saints corner Randall Gay is sitting out there in free agency.

I'm VERY
Excited about Kevin Thomas. He hasn’t played yet but he has been in the play-book for over a year. He was a third round draft pick last season and we seem to be VERY good at developing corners in a short period of time. (tryon, powers, and lacey all started as rookies) Not to mention, bullitt, lacey, tryon, and bethea were all guys who were drafted late or not at all and have turned out to be pretty solid players so far. This guy is a player Polian chose to be worth a 3rd rounder. Very excited to see what he can do.

My only concern
is that he seems a little frail to me. I just hope all of our backs can stay healthy!
He still played more, than the bigger guys the last two seasons
In the meantime, Marlin Jackson, after ACL+ACL+Achilles, now has hernia.
While the past does not equal the future
Thomas also had an injury riddles career at USC. I like his USC pedigree but he played in a defensive backfield along Taylor Mays during Pete Carrol’s last year as coach that proved pretty disappointing. Like so many USC players, he came very highly rated from high school and was quite fast. Hopefully, he can get his mojo back as a Colt.

That is just plain silliness right there.
Tryon was drafted by the Redskins in the 4th round in 2008. We traded for him prior to last season. He was well developed when he came here, not because he came here.
Secondly, I’m not sure how much you’ve seen lacey play, but other than a few good plays his rookie season, there has been little to be desired beyond that.
Powers was drafted in the third round (which isn’t late) and has panned out well as he was expected to coming into the NFL. That doesn’t make him some kind of sleeper, or crazy draft steal.
Lastly, kevin thomas? Seriously? The guy has spent more time injured in his career than he has healthy. We wasted a third round pick on a guy who was known to have injury issues simply because he had a standout pro day. It was a mistake of a pick, and when he ends up on the IR this season he may not return to this team from it, or any other for that matter.
Actually
Tryon was going to be waived by the Redskins when the Colts traded for him to make sure they got him instead of risking waiting on the waiver wire. The Colts gave the Redskins a 7th round pick for Justin Tryon. He was NOT well developed when he came here. He was a disappointment, who was actually turned into a real asset upon arrival.
I do agree with you on Lacey, he has simply not been good save for a few standout plays in his rookie year. He’s not a good cover corner, gives way too big a cushion, stares into the backfield way too much, and bites way too hard on play fakes.
Powers was projected as a 4th-5th rounder, though many forget this. He projected to a decent nickel or dime DB but has started and produced above and beyond expectations right from his rookie season.
Finally, it’s rather unfair to draw any conclusion on Kevin Thomas at this point in his career. There are plenty of draft picks who lose a first season because of injury in TC. Mike Leshoure just got hurt and is done for the season. You simply don’t write these guys off as busts right off the bat. That’s lazy, irresponsible and downright nonsensical. If he suffers another severe injury this year, then it’s probably time to call him a mistake, but at this point it’s simply bad luck.

Meanwhile at Patriots camp:
Albert Haynesworth fell to the ground, apparently in serious pain…
He grabbed his groin and screamed “Oww My liver! My liver!”

LOL
Love this.
If the Pats had gotten Albert a few years ago when he was in his prime, pre-diva days, I would give more credibility to this pick up.
When Tony Dungy was asked if he would take a chance on Haynesworth if given the chance
he said no stating he watched Albert take too many plays off with Titans except when playing for the new contract.

My mistake
Guess for some reason I thought tryon was a late pick because we traded a 7th rounder for him…yeah? And I didn’t say powers was a late pick. But he DID start as a rookie and played well. And kevin Thomas got hurt be his rookie season so we haven’t seen him yet. He hasn’t had much of career to be injured. So we’ll see.
also, lacey made plays. which is good considering he was an UDFA. Just saying, a young 3rd rounder at corner, there could be something there. If he’s healthy of course

Here we go, Paul Kuharsky bits
http://espn.go.com/blog/afcsouth/post/_/id/26302/quick-hits-from-polian-and-caldwell
Ben Ijalana is tackle material, Drake Nevis is back up NT, from the mouth of Polian and Caldwell.
Looks like Caldwell was hitting at a Diem at RG and Ijalana at RT setup. Considering Diem still has power and knows the defense playing him at RG would play to his strengths and protect him for getting turned around by edge rushers.

BRILLIANT
this is great. Now we can put the two rookie takles on the outside and use their youth. And they will have DeVan and Diem on the inside to help coach them. I love it. Too bad we couldn’t get Johnson back though

Invitation to DE's
We have two rookies on the outside. Please feel free to smash Peyton to bits.

yeah
but if the ability is there, it would be really good for them to earn there stripes early. I mean….peyton wasn’t getting any time last year. And he got rid of the ball quickly. But if these guys can be our two best tackles by week 8 bc they started the first 7 games…then go for it.

sounds good to me! anything to get either pollak or devan off the line. Now if McClendon can ressemble a decent football player we could have ourselves an oline for a year or 2! (until Saturday wears down and Diem loses it completely)
agreed
Those 2 are good backups McClendon needs to come through and the rookies need a little time ,and hope Link is better, he got pushed around bad by Houston last year.

UPDATE
Jacob Lacey did not practice full pads last night. He didn’t practice at all really. He just chilled on the sideline in his jersey and shorts
