Colts' Safety Weakness

The Colts are moving in the right direction. They have focused free agency on defensive  needs.  One piece that is conspicuously absent is an experienced Safety.  There is one out there that would fit the need, Asante Samuel.  Yes, his dollar expectations are ridiculous!  His experience and effectiveness on a dynamically changing team, the Eagles, is noteworthy.  If the new General Manager wants to establish his "mark" on the team, this is an excellent opportunity to establish his legacy.  Without this piece, the Colts will be susceptible in medium to deep pass coverage.  Please, Colts management, don't stay complacent!  Try and go that last mile and reinforce our chances to play a Superbowl home game in Indianapolis.

weakness...

I don’t consider it that huge of a weakness, actually. Remember, Francisco was the equivalent of an eighth or ninth option – not many years will we go that low on the depth chart at any position. One of the Starnews writers said he believes Lefeged must be impressing at camp because he was made 2nd string SS. I’m comfortable with Mike Newton and Chip Vaughn too. It’s not proven depth, but we rely on young players for depth pretty much every year (and these guys are way better than Francisco).

agreed. plus I thought asante was a corner and am pretty sure the eagles are going to keep him.

I live in Philadelphia

I’m a huge Colts fan, and from watching both the Colts and the Eagles I get a pretty good idea of both teams. This is a fact: Asante Samuel is terrified to tackle. He can’t play safety in the Colts defense. His man coverage and ball skills are tops in the league, but he will dive infront of any reciever or back that is headed his way. Bethea is a great center fielder type of safety who isn’t afraid to fly up and hit a player in the back field. Samuel will never ever ever do that.

You're an idiot

This whole post is a joke right.
1. Samuel is a cornerback, not a safety
2. The Eagles haven’t cut him
3. He costs too much to sign since cap room is likely being saved for next offseason for deals for Wayne and Mathis.

i'd just as soon bring back Hayden (at reduced salary) than pick up any FA

Still a good idea...

…I wonder if players like Hayden (who have gotten lost in the shuffle in this weird year) will sign one-year contracts for league minimum so they can cash in on next year’s more normalized FA market… It would be better for most of their careers than sitting out all year…

Hes a corner, and he doesn't tackle (not good if you want to shift him to S).

Plus he’s still the Eagles’ starter.
