I watched the first half of the Colts, Rams game again last night. My focus was primarily on the defensive and offensive line play, and here's my take.
1) McClendon had good drive when run blocking. When he found himself isolated in pass protection he was smoked. Joe Reitz who started played well.
2) Pollack played well at center ,maintained well in pass and run blocking. Kyle Devan played adequate, he is going to make this team.
3)Castonzo and Ijalana played like rookies in their first game. On one 3rd down play Orlovsky was forced to slide to his right as Castonzo wiffed on his block only to be greeted by another on rushing lineman that Ijalana had the best seat in the house for.
4)Drake Nevis showed some penetration, but like Moala's rush seemed to be easily steered out of the play opening up the back door on running plays. Nevis did absolutely run over someone and through another on the same play to almost get a sack. It would be interesting to watch them both on passing situations.
5)Jerry Hughes and Joe Chick seem to have the same skill set, but considering how both of them were obtained this is not an endorsement for Hughes. Eric Foster without the benefit of starters drawing attention away from him did not play well. And i am a big Foster fan.
Overall ,the coaches now have some film to work with. And it is their job to correct and prepare these players. I watched part of the Redskins game also. The ran at will on the Steeler's first unit and their defence knocked the snot out of anyone near the ball . They are playing hard right now for Shanahan. And this will be an early indicater of how well the coaches are doing there jobs.
