Brett Favre to the Colts??!

Okay everyone before people get upset/hopeful let me start this by saying this is all not only a rumor, but speculation and opinion by a few people. Personally the thought of Favre coming to the Colts to back up Manning had NEVER crossed my mind until I came across an article today discussing the controversial acquisition.

Star-divide

Now say what you wanna say about who should back up the Colts, but let me just say a little something about the current back up QB situation with the Colts right now (something we all are well aware of).  Curtis Painter sucks. Dan Orlovsky sucks. Nate Davis sucks did suck until he was cut earlier today. Well actually he still sucks he just doesn't suck ont he team anymore. Don't get me wrong I like Orlovsky and I was pulling for Nate Davis, and in many ways I agree with BBS and thinks he deserves another chance. I mean good god how many chances has Curtis 'Sunshine' Painter been given? You know why I don't like Painter? Because he just seems like a wuss. Don't get me wrong Painter has done much more than me by even making it in the NFL, but he jsut seems soft, he doesn't have the gut to be a succesful NFL QB. Of course he looks fine in camp, but when the pressure iss on he folds. The camera goes to his face and he has this sad puppy dog look with sweat dripping down his face before the game even begins. I'm sure he is a great guy but we need help at the backup position and Curtis isn't the answer.

Enter in future Hall of Famer Brett Favre.  There are pros and cons when it comes to adding Favre:

Pros

-Favre is not only one of the greatest QB's to ever play (top 15) he can still play at a decently good level for his age. He sure as hell can play better than Painter and Orlovsky.

- Favre could come at a discount price. Favre couldn't demand a price of a starting qb anymore and he even couldn't really demand the price of a great backup seeing as though there is a slim slim chance he will actually play any significant time.

- It would be the easiest job int he world for Favre. He gets paid to show up.

Cons

- the media attention would be sickening for most Colts fans.

- Favre has never really had the mentality to be a backup.

- We are already a good amount into training camps and the preseason, could Favre come in near the end of training camp and learn and get used to the Colts offense?

The biggest question between all of this is would Favre be willing to come out of retirement to be a back up? I'd put the chances of this acutally happening at 5 percent. If he were looking for teams, then I would give his chances to be higher but he is retired and it would take a lot to bring him out. But maybe getting paid to do the easiest job in the world, with a strong chance of returing to the Super bowl, will bring up the question.

My biggest problem with this article is that it implies that Manning will miss time. I don't want Favre because I think Manning will miss time, I want Favre because he would be a good and cheap backup QB.

Here is the article, I'm just gonna copy and paste make it easier for people:

Here is the link

From Indianapolis Business Journal:

Could Brett Favre be wearing an Indianapolis Colts jersey within three weeks?

OK, OK, I hear the howls. I agree, it sounds ridiculous.

But if Peyton Manning isn’t sufficiently healed to start by week one, and his overall health for this season is still questionable, then I think there’s a good argument for the Colts to take a look at Favre.

And there’s reason to believe Favre would have a strong interest in one more shot at Super Bowl glory—or at least playing a meaningful role in a Super Bowl run.

If the Colts think Manning will only miss two or three games, it makes sense to ride out the storm with back-up Curtis Painter. Though, for those who saw Painter in Saturday’s pre-season game, that scenario wouldn’t be pretty.

If Colts trainers think Manning might miss four or more games, there’s every reason to go after Favre, who is no doubt down in Mississippi hoping a contender like the Colts calls shortly after training camp breaks.

Even if Manning only misses four or five games, an awful start could doom the season. And with Manning at 35, he doesn’t have too many seasons left to doom.

What the Colts need is a guy who would play for one year and for nothing more than a chance to play a meaningful role in a Super Bowl run. Favre, 41, might fit that bill perfectly.

The Colts have proved they’re a contender with a Hall of Fame quarterback under center. And there aren’t too many HOF QBs out there floating around. With Painter, they’ve proved time and again they’re not very good.

There would have to be a couple of conditions for Favre to join the Colts. He’d have to play for a relatively small salary, something he hasn’t been willing to do. The Colts have little cap space.

Second, Favre would have to promise to play it straight. That means no e-mailing photos of himself of any kind to anyone, and no other shenanigans. He’s already shown he can get along with players in just about any locker room, so that shouldn’t be a problem.

And you’d have to believe Favre would get along well with a players’ owner like Jim Irsay.

As for learning the Colts offense, well, adding Favre this late in the game would be less than ideal. But remember, this is a guy who’s played 20 NFL seasons. You’d think he’d be quick to pick up the basics. Plus, the Colts aren’t running a system as complicated as the N.Y. Jets under Eric Mangini, a system in which Favre struggled three years ago.

Don’t forget, there’s extra motivation for the Colts to play in Super Bowl XLVI because it will be played in Lucas Oil Stadium.

Don’t think Irsay doesn’t want to accomplish what Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones failed to do a year ago—become the first NFL team to play in a Super Bowl in its home city.

Favre in a Colts jersey? Probably just a pipe dream. Certainly a long shot. I’m sure Colts fans everywhere are on their knees hoping it doesn’t come to this.

But if it does, nobody loves a long shot more than No. 4.

Tbh, I’m pretty sure hes retired, and I see no chance he comes out of it to be a back up.

If brady/peyton/rodgers etc gets put on IR then maybe he comes back to a good team, but not to be a back up

Not Rodgers.

Think GB wants to go back down that path?

I doubt he comes out of retirement if

he isn’t going to be starting every game. And Peyton is starting over Favre obviously. I know Painter sucks, but lets not completely count him out for being semi-ok until he gets more than two series under his belt.

He did throw that pick on his firs pass, which to be honest I laughed when he did, but the second series he drove us down the field and put points on the board. Also the longer we are in camp, the more our line will start to work itself out. Hopefully Constanzo can get plenty of reps and be ready week one.

He may consider it if we hire good looking sideline employees who resemble his wife.

I doubt he'll want to back up

the guy who’s gonna break all his records.

Please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please

If you saw him play last year, there is absolutely no way he makes any team. Throw in the fact he is the worlds biggest douche (yes, even bigger than John Edwards, or a literal giant douche), and you definitely shouldn’t want him at all.

That said, please sign him, Irsay!

Kinda Dumb

Wow…really? And while we’re at it, why not give a call to Dan Marino or John Elway or Joe Montana? Look, Brett Favre is one of the best, and in my opinion, should’ve retired after Green Bay, but after his retarded Jets run, and great first season as a Viking, he should’ve retired after that and not have come back last season. I could’ve seen Favre coming back for 1 more season, but with McNabb joining the team, I’m happy to say that Favre is retired. One of the greatest, give him the respect he deserves, and let him enjoy his millions in peace. And by the way, anyone know anything on the Metrodome and LA football situation? I hope they’re not moving Minny.

I can't be sure,

but I think thats been dealt with, in one way or another, and we don’t have to worry about the Vikings getting moved. Not 100% sure, just something I read made me think that.

Looks like

Chargers, Raiders or Rams are the only teams still in play for the stadium but chargers are ahead because their contract is not as strict as the others as an LA native, not too excited about any of those teams except maybe seeing a the colts come beat the chargers

League also said they will not allow the to create an entirely new 33rd team which might have been exciting in itself to see

I live in LA and it's a very likely the Chargers play here next year in Coliseum

while a proposed new stadium downtown next to Staples Center is being built (privately). There is also a second group looking to build a stadium outside of LA that could bring back the Rams, Al Davis Thugs or Vikings.
A second team could also be brought in to also play downtown and share with Chargers like the Jets and Giants do in Jersey. As a diehard Colts fan it would be tough to root for Philip Rivers.
