Serious Question About the Kicking Game...

Did the NFL juice the kicking balls this year?  McAfee reportedly has made a 75 yard FG.  Vinatieri has drilled a 59 or 60 yarder (last year it seemed he couldn't make a 50 yarder).  The Rams kicker made a 60 yarder to end the 1st half against us on Saturday, clearing it with room to spare.  78-year-old David Akers kicked a 59 yarder with a few yards to spare against the Saints last weekend.

And kickoffs - I know about the rule change that placed the kickoffs at the 35, instead of the 30, but the difference is night and day.  Prior to this year, I'd bet that most kickoffs landed somewhere between the 7 yardline, and 3 yards deep (10 yard span).  The 5 yard rule-change would push that back to the 2 yardline-8 yards deep.  Yet, I don't think I've seen a single kickoff short of the endzone, and a high percentage of them have cleared the endzone or gone straight through the uprights.

Am I missing something?
