Good, not at all in the first quarter, but as the game progressed and he completed a few passes, he gained confidence and actually looked acceptible. If he plays a bit looser and more confident, we might actually be able to win a game with him.

That's a given.
Question is, does he displace Brown?
I say yes. Brown’s problem is his vision. He runs into tacklers and doesn’t have the beef to run through. Carter seems to hit the open hole fast, without hesitation, and if there’s a tackler he has the strength to take them on. Basically, Carter knows what he’s doing. Brown can be chalked up to pure talent that worked in college.

Caldwell should have had his team ready for the onside kick
It was so obvious they were going to do it…. no one plays for OT in preseason. The onside kick was McCarthy’s plan all along – he wanted to practice it – and he knew darn well that Caldwell is a bit slow on the uptake and wouldn’t see the “surprise” onside kick coming.
It’s truly an embarrassing moment for the team and for Jim. I don’t think he is up to the task of being an NFL coach. But, hey, at least he knew to call telegraph a timeout before the field goal in a half-hearted icing attempt.
