Austin Collie And Anthony Gonzalez Unlikely To Play In Colts Preseason Finale

Phil Wilson provides the following tweets:

Some have asked, we continue to wonder as well. No clue on WR Austin Collie (foot). He wasn't at practice Monday. Team is mum.

Also, #Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez is still rehabbing a sore right hamstring. No idea on his prognosis. Don't expect either Collie nor Gonzo to play Thursday at Cincinnati.

I've said this before, and SI's Will Carroll agrees with me, if Gonzo is not healthy after the final preseason game, the Colts will cut him. He's in the final year of his contract, and it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to keep him on the team is he is hurt. He's seen very little action in preseason, and for a guy who has spent the last two years on IR, that's not good.

At this point, if Gonzo is not cut, I'd be surprised.

Collie's foot thing seems odd. I mean, the guy wasn't even at practice yesterday. Meanwhile, Blair White has yet to be activated from the P.U.P. list. He missed all of training camp, and now he's likely to miss all of preseason.

Someone get Randy Moss and T.J. Houshmandzadeh on the phone.

Same as the sitch we had with Sanders

Bob was probably a top 3 safety in the NFL when he was healthy, maybe not the playmaker type like Polamalu or Ed Reed but his presence was felt and it was like the energy he gave off was absorbed by other players allowing them to play at a higher level too. Gonzo’s impact isn’t quite that profound, but he’s a decent player plus very smart and mature. You want guys like him on your team and not guys like Terrell Owens who will put up huge numbers and touchdowns but also drop a lot of balls and then stir up a hornet’s nest in the locker room.

I think the Colts should cut him too if it becomes apparent that he can no longer help this team win games. They already made the mistake with Sanders, keeping him on the team by virtue of feeling obligated to because of his contract. Gonzo isn’t in the same boat and if he won’t play in 2011, he should be gone sooner rather than later. I like the dude and wish him luck in the future whether it be as a Colt, as an NFL player somewhere else or in a different career.

i can agree with that

the injuries are frustrating and piss everyone off but if you take a step back its actually kinda sad. He couldve been a solid contributor, but its not gonna happen so its time to cut the cord.

Is Bobby still healthy out in SD?? I’d be stunned if he played even HALF the season

by bigpony on Aug 30, 2011 3:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Not likely to happen.

If Gonzo or Collie’s injuries were serious I think some one would have been brought in by now. I bet they start practicing Friday.

Hmmmmm

This is starting to feel a bit like last year with the injuries. Only a bit, though, so far. I hope they’re both back soon, because those are two of our top wide receivers. It’s not looking exceptionally good for our receiving corp, right now.

ABSOFREAKINGLUTELY! Get MOSS on this team Immediately!

Moss would be attrocious on this team. He’s a locker room cancer who dogs it on routes and isn’t precise with his running. In an offense based on timing, I wouldn’t touch him with a 10 and half foot pole.

Not true when he was with the Pats

don’t think it would be true in Indy either.

actually

it was true with the pats

which is why they ditched him midseason

by omahacolt on Aug 30, 2011 9:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Moss started dogging it on routes and PO’d Brady. He told BB that Moss could stay on the team, but he wouldn’t get balls thrown his way anymore. Then NE traded him.

And he still couldn’t run routes in NE

by TrueBlue87 on Aug 31, 2011 1:09 AM EDT up reply actions

Exactly

Manning gets on guys for running a route 18 inches too shallow or deep, could imagine what he he would do if Moss dogged a route?

by calicolt on Aug 31, 2011 10:14 AM EDT up reply actions

Just my opinion...

But I just think he’d go all out for Indy, at least for 1 or 2 years. He played very well his first 2 seasons in NE. I think with the strength of the Colts organization and Peyton Manning running the show, Moss would fall in line and deliver. It’s worth the risk…If he does start dogging routes and becoming a hazard to the team, Cut Him.

Gonzalez won't be cut

I just won’t expect it. If the Colts took that long to finally let Sanders go, I don’t see Polian letting Gonzalez go either. Polian doesn’t really seem to want anyone to leave, therefore, the reason why Gonzalez, Brown, Hughes, Pollak, are all still on the roster. I mean, hell even Philip Wheeler had a weak season last season, and Polian probably didn’t even think at all about cutting him or getting a deal done. And I’m not saying that the Colts should cut Pollak or Wheeler or Hughes or anyone, you get the point. But my point is that I don’t expect Polian to make any significant cuts.

Cutting Gonzo does what? Save us money? If so, I say cut him. He hasn’t been on the field and we still win. It’s not like Gonzo is hurting us by not being on the field. hahaha

Amen

If we do not call Moss or Housh we have lost our minds….we have Wayne….Garcon…..and no one else….hopefully Collie is OK…..but Gonzo is done….even if he comes
back he will get hurt….we need help….why are we waiting…..we need one of Moss or Housh

by Colts53 on Aug 30, 2011 7:00 PM EDT reply actions

Blair White is probably a better option than Housh. White spent the offseason with Manning and already knows the offense. Receivers don’t usually transition well from one team to another. I expect White to be activated from the PUP soon and take the fifth reciever spot.

no

we dont need or want housh or moss

by omahacolt on Aug 30, 2011 9:15 PM EDT reply actions   1 recs

It's the 4th pre-season game

Which is a joke. Sometimes the starters don’t even line up for 1 play. So I wouldn’t put too much stock into Gonzo or Collie not playing. Especially Collie, because we know he’ll be ready for week 1. As for Gonzo, if he’s not ready for opening day I agree with you he should be cut, but not because he misses the last pre-season game with what could easily be a very minor injury and he just doesn’t want to reinjure it a week before the season begins.

by Coltsfan1345 on Aug 30, 2011 10:35 PM EDT reply actions

lol

how do we know collie will be ready for week 1? i am not sure collie will ever finish a game again.

hahah then why should gonzo be cut? did his injuries hurt your feelings

by omahacolt on Aug 30, 2011 10:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Because Collie's injury is minor

and it’s already been said he would be playing if it was regular season. And why should Gonzo be cut? Because he’s played in, what, 3 of the last 32 games. And he’ll make it 3 of the last 33 if he’s not ready for week 1. No reason to have him on the roster. Both these points are obvious, do some research.

by Coltsfan1345 on Aug 31, 2011 12:27 PM EDT up reply actions

ok

1) who would take his spot if we cut him? nobody on our roster is worthy of cutting gonzo for

2) there sure is a reason to have him on the roster. he is better than everyone behind him on the depth chart. he doesnt cost that much and he may be healthy for the year

3) you are no fortune teller. stop acting like one

by omahacolt on Aug 31, 2011 8:58 PM EDT up reply actions

This will be my last post.......

…..regarding Gonzo until the headline reads GONZO GONE, and then I will simply post THANK YOU.

As I have stated before I’m sick of Gonzo taking a roster spot on this team, if the Colts don’t cut him real soon and get a receiver in here we are just asking for problems to start the season.

I’m a gambler and I don’t mind gambling on Moss. To me its worth the gamble, you either get Randy Moss the FREAK that can’t be stopped by anyone or you get the Randy Moss that is a complete worthless asshole…….I’m willing to take the gamble that this is more than likely Randy’s last stint in the NFL and to finish your career playing with the greatest Quarterback to ever play and have a shot at a Super Bowl he would keep his nose clean and finish his career strong. JMO

What do you really have to lose? He shows his ass you cut him.

by Blue Report on Aug 31, 2011 11:20 AM EDT reply actions

Isn't the reason Moss retired was he wanted more than one year deal for low pay?

How would the Colts sign him and didn’t Collins take up caps $$
