Of Course Jeff George Can Learn The Colts Offense In A Few Days

4 Oct 1992: Quarterback Jeff George of the Indianapolis Colts looks to pass the ball during a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Tampa Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The Colts won the game, 24-14. Mandatory Credit: Scott Halleran /Allsport

The only thing more ridiculous than suggesting the Colts should sign Brett Favre is the idea that Jeff George, widely considered one of the stupidest quarterbacks to play, could learn and thrive in the modern Colts offense. So, naturally, it should come as no surprise that Jeff himself thinks he can indeed learn the Colts offense... and in just a few short days!

From PFT:

Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times reports via Twitter that Jeff George said he could pick up the Colts offense "in a matter of days."

The Colts drafted George with the No. 1 selection, 21 years ago.  He’ll be 44 in December.

The team presumably isn’t interested.

I think we can presume a lot of things about the Colts, such as their front office is clueless, their coach is little more than a stooge, and their last two first round picks are complete and total busts at this point in their careers.

However, one thing we can state as FACT is that the Colts have absolutely no interest in bringing back Jeff George, and that a brain dead jelly fish has a better chance of learning the current Colts offense in a few days over George, a product of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis and former No. 1 overall draft pick by the Colts in 1990.

I guess this is what happens when things fall apart as rapidly as they are now. We're actually talking about Jeff friggin George, the No. 1 draft bust in Indianapolis Colts history.

Jason Whitlock would probably actually not trash the Colts at every opportunity if the Colts brought George back.

Yeah, it's definitely good for a laugh.

Playing behind our line at 44 years old and after the first hit, Jeff George would be destroyed.

Actually, I found this short offering of BBS’s pretty good-hearted. The image of Jeff George coming back made me laugh. This article didn’t bother me at all.

Jeff George is only 6 years older than kerry Collins

I hate to say it...

but BBS’s assessment of the front office and head coach are spot on. You may disagree with the way he puts it, you may be misdirecting anger at the sad state of this team onto him and nitpicking at the way he phrases certain statements, but underneath all of that, his points are valid. If the Colts were 2-0 with Peyton at the helm and Jeff George were to make a statement about being able to pick up the Colts offense in a matter of days, a “brain dead jellyfish” might be the most flattering thing some of us would call him. A season like this was bound to happen. Heads need to roll because even with Peyton, this season would be similar to last year. The only question now is do the Colts look for Peyton’ successor in the draft or look to improve the various other weaknesses and assume Peyton will be ready to go for the start of the 2012 season.

I agree too.

It sounds like just hate, but there’s reasoning for everything.

by KBUnitz on Sep 20, 2011 12:49 PM EDT up reply actions

ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!!!

This front office is a complete joke!!!! Anyone who follows this team in much depth and without blind folds on can see the mistakes that have been made year after year. Its not an opinion its fact. This has been a very piss poor ran organization for at least 5 to 6 years now. Everyone in the front office through the coaching staff has been able to coast and sit on their ass with Peyton around to cover everything up and put 35 points on the board every week.

by Blue Report on Sep 20, 2011 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions   2 recs

True. You would have to be clueless yourself

to think the front office wasn’t clueless.

by Ayrshire on Sep 20, 2011 2:12 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

Disagreed

We are now just seeing how small the front office’s margin of error is. Do you want to see how bad it could be? Look at the Rams I know their offensive coordinator left for the Browns but instead of staying to course and hiring a new offensive coordinator with a similar system they go out and hire Josh McDaniels for a new offensive coordinator and now the offense and second year quarterback have learn a completely new system and do not have the personnel to run the spread system. Now Bradford is going to regress and his young offensive personnel are going to also. Instead of team that should be going to the playoff’s they may be in a better position to be in the suck for Luck sweepstakes. Not mention a good head coach may be in the hot seat.

With all due respect,

I’m not focusing on any team but the Colts. I can only base my conclusions about the Colts with what I see on the field, the perennial problem areas that never get fixed, and the decisions that are made by the front office and coaching staff. I’ve stated my opinions many times all over this blog and they haven’t changed a lick.

by Ayrshire on Sep 20, 2011 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

Colts did not fix the Oline or the Dline this year

Link was horrible last yr and it is sad we do not have anyone better to start at R tackle where is CJ and DeVan when we need them, and bring back Booger Mac- I want a big bad DT who is BIG and can stop the run and the corner backs suck, we have no one tall enough or fast enough to cover a good big receiver

Jeff George was misunderstood....

I think he meant he could pick up the Colts’ Offense “in a matter of days”…literally. You see, he’s been working out lately and, after a few more days of his lifting regimen, he could, likely, be able to lift the Colts’ Offensive playbook

I have no doubt he could master the Colts playbook ... on Madden

assuming he can afford a game system and isn’t completely overcome by arthritis….

Yeah he would.

I would have to disagree with you on this. If Al Davis who is loyal to his former players beyond fault did not want Jeff George a few years ago with their mess at QB, then Jeff George should not be on anyone’s mind. George had a good career and still has a million dollar arm but that was never his problem. His problem was always what was between his ears.

article about Farve rediculous why would he ever want to come to Indy now LISTEN this is the way it should play out if I get my wish Colts get worst record this year( painful this season, but good in long run) they draft Andrew Luck,, and get the best pick each other round,, they have 4th place conf. schedule next year Peyton comes back healthy and leads them next yr to SB and in 4 yrs hands off to LUCK!!!!

Not completely absurd

I doubt he could do it this quickly or at his age, but Jeff George did bail out the Vikings in a pretty similar situation back in 1999. Randall Cunningham inexplicably forgot how to play QB and the team started out 2-4. George came in and finished 10-2, won a playoff game before losing a 49-37 shootout to Kurt Warner’s Rams. The Vikings’ offense during that stretch was as good as I’ve ever seen – including the Colts’ best offensive years (not better, but as good!). Having Chris Carter, Randy Moss, Robert Smith, and a top notch O-line certainly helped, but George’s quick release and strong arm were a big factor as well. If Manning’s injury had happened a few years ago, I think George would have been a pretty good option.

by ex-Viking fan on Sep 20, 2011 3:34 PM EDT reply actions

he was a head case

and a primadonna when he played for the Colts and a spoiled baby all well documented, let’s bring back Jim Harbaugh he can play QB for Colts and coach 49ers at the same time

correction

Miscounted the games, George went 8-2 to finish the regular season for a team record of 10-6.

This is so sad we are reaching to Jeff George and Brett Favre as a solution.

Signing KC was enough of a stretch. I would rather take our lumps with KC and CP this year and hope for the best with a full Peyton recovery or a rebuild from top to bottom internally and on the field. BTW, Jason Whitlock is not only still close to Jeff George, he is also close to the George’s family from high school.

Can we all just agree

That the Colts FO should NOT have built a team around Peyton Manning to fully utility his talents?
We needed to wander in the desert of an occasional wining season for a few more decades to FULLY appreciate what a great run we’ve had and are likely still in should Peyton return.

Re: Jeff George's claim

Big deal. Not only does most of this board think they are capable of picking up the Colt’s system, they think they can draft the right players, negotiate proper salaries, and mysteriously recognize if a player will be a bust with injuries even though the didn’t demonstrate a propensity for injuries in the minor league. What’s the big deal?

Here’s the real shocker Jeff – - – I’m Batman !!!

FYI everyone

Please remember to follow the site guidelines when you comment. I just had to ban two idiots who thought it was OK to insult and demean writers, editors, and readers of this site. That’s a no-no.

Overall, the discussion here is cool, but keep the insults at a minimum. Thanks.

by manningtoharrison on Sep 21, 2011 11:39 AM EDT reply actions

They gave a washed up Kerry Collins a shot, didn’t they?

Might just as well bring in Curious George, too.

About KC, it’s like I warned Colt fans before:

“Lather, rinse, repeat”.

They should be looking at every available free agent QB. Maybe they’ll get lucky.

It don’t look like KC is gonna take them any place so why don’t go “kick some tires”?

Anyways, I think they need to pull a “Aaron Rodgers” like Green Bay did and draft the future QB next April. Since it looks like the Colts will be drafting high in the next draft, they should be able to get someone. If Pey-Pey comes back, then he can mentor the young guy for 2 or 3 years. If not, then the Colts can do what the Titans are doing with Locker: sign a free agent veteran QB (not named Kerry Collins) and let the “new” rookie sit and watch for a while…

I had to stop arguing with drunks, Steeler fans, and all other fools.
It was making my brick wall jealous...
