More reaction later, but Jim Irsay reported this morning they are "likely" shutting Manning down for the season.

UPDATE: Jim Irsay tweeted Manning will stay on Active Roster, for now.

I WISH it weren't so.

Surely, a pun of this quality deserves praise!?

We'll know by the April 2012 draft

IF Manning will play again. If he does, then our Top 10 pick will be interesting. Do we go after a replacement for Mathis? What about a shutdown corner? Or, do we get the best WR available to replace the aging Reggie Wayne? Best RB in the draft?

What do you think?

Top 10? Try #1 overall.

I get what you are saying but...

KC, Bengals, St. Louis, Denver, Miami, Jax, and Seattle will all have something to say about that. I expect the Colts will end up between 3-13 and 5-11 which secures than a Top 10. It’s going to take a 2-14 record to get the number one pick this year. Don’t think the Colts are “bad” enuff. We still play the Bengals, Jax twice and Chiefs (the Luck Bowl) this year. Personally, I would love for the colts to finish with the number 1 pick, trade down a few spots to a team that covets Luck and pick up a few more picks.

good news

Season is lost , I would keep collins on the bench and play painter to see if he gets any better handling pressure and focus the team on developing the run game and getting better at defense for when manning returns next year! anddddd get a high draft pick in the process!

Can't wait until game 7

when Peyton and Tressel are shown in the press box with matching sweater vests and headsets.

they made this announcement sooner than expected

it’s a good thing, assuming this doesn’t mean it’s career threating

Why

I didn’t expect it this sooner either, but this announcement should have been made weeks ago. Why would they consider rushing this and risking permanent damage and ending his career early?

mock drafts

Yep…Im a geek like that

Lets say colts draft first … i see them trading the pick if Manning is looking like he can come back next year…some one will give up a couple of firsts (this year and next) and throw in a second for Luck

Assuming its K.C., Seattle, or San Fran we move down a few spots and can take either:

1. Kalil OT move Constonzo to RT and have two stud OT
2. Blackmon – stud WR
3. Richardson – Edge Clone?

Then take the second and get Lewis from Boise

I don't think the title fits and this isn't news

The media is grasping at straws here. “Sources at the breakfast meeting report Manning won’t practice again until December and may not play again until 2012.”

Uh okay, what is there that we didn’t already know? We didn’t know he wouldn’t practice until December, but I don’t think Irsay really knows that either. From what I understand, they can only speculate at this point on when he’ll be back. I think this is WISH-TV trying to get national headlines…

Redzone???

I couldn’t believe my ears last night when Collinsworth said the Colts considered using Manning this season in red zone situations only!!!

I can’t believe that was even considered.

This is false...From Irsay's twitter
I didn’t say Peyton out 4season FOR SURE,keeping him on ActiveRoster n taking it month by month/Outside chance of return n December possible

Mr. Irsay, please.......

step away from your twitter account.

Irsay needs to quit the drugs

why would you keep him on the active roster for? colts are 0-3 and the offense is not improving, colts will be lucky if they win even 1 game… so the logical thing to do is try to win without risking manning and give him time to be back next season better than ever.. Irsay you should focus on developing a good running game/OL play for when Peyton returns .. Peyton 100% healthy with a running game = super bowl run.. come’on man quit the pills and IR him already.. only reason I can think of is that he thinks that keeping the hope os a manning return this season would keep people from selling their tickets/not buying them.. yeah right! wait for this team to be like 0-8 to start seeing the paperbags

I think keeping him on the active roster

is a business strategy to not lose the large PM fan club this year with hopes and dreams he’s coming back.
