In my view, Painter has nothing to lose at this point. If he reads all the things posted on here about him, posted by supposed Colts fans, then he would have hung himself by now. I believe he is in a position right now to let it all hang out and either show that he is worth keeping or that maybe this isn't his thing. We don't have any better options, we're not going to get any better options, so let him play.
Everyone wants to keep saying that he has played and shown that he can't, but I don't believe so. He came into the end of a Pittsburgh game and managed a scoring TD drive that Collings couldn't do all night. So what that he over-threw Garcon, and threw a couple of one-hops, the guy came into the situation cold, never expecting to play.
What he did do that not a lot of people what to talk about (probably because it goes against the want to bash him non-stop) is come into the game and actually manage the offense. He was at the line making adjustments, just like his mentor, and looked comfortable doing so. Every ime they Collins face on tv he looks like he doesn't want to be there. Let the guy who wants to be there, and appreciates being in that position play.
I agree that our defense is a work in progress, but Angerer looked extremely comfortable playing the run. We can't afford to buy any better CB's, but I attribute a lot of what they are doing to bad coaching. If you believe that Lacey gives guys a 10 yard cushion on 3rd and 7 because thats what he wants to do, you are living in a fantasy world. He's been coached and told to do that. I do think that a coaching overhaul is in need at the end of the year. Our true star doesn't need a coach, in fact he is a coach for the rest of the offense. But the decisions guys are making on defense is all on the coaching.
I'm sure I'll hear that I'm wrong, but why not have some fun this season and let the young guys air it out, rather than being bitter and angry for 14 more weeks?
