Right now, the sky is falling for Colts football fans. Everything is being speculated and rumors are running as rampant as a virus. Everything from how long to if ever is being discussed. As a Colts fan right now, I'm just not going to dwell on it. I don't expect him back this year. If he comes back, great. The world doesn't stop spinning for anyone. I read Tony Dungy's book and the one thing I took away was, to paraphrase, if it isn't helping, why waste your time on it. Why dwell and try to read every story when it's obvious that right now even those who should know don't. Nothing positive is going to come out of it.
Where does this leave us? We have a brand new football season starting. We are lucky to have a full season after the offseason. We have a defense that has the potential to get better. We have good pieces in skill positions and a line that should improve as the season rolls on. Heck, we even have an experience QB to put in there. It could be a rookie that has no business starting. It could be Painter. I'm going to look at what we have and be thankful.
I could sit around this year and look at the doom and gloom and get depressed. I've decided I'm not going to do that. I am a football fan first, Colts fan second. All the pressure and expectations are off, so let's just enjoy the game. I hope we are competitive and even if we don't win a lot of games, we have a chance to win most. I hope we improve. I hope we have players step up in a way we wouldn't have noticed otherwise. We might be 4-12, we might be 8-8 and we might find a way to surprise people and make the playoffs. Nothing is set in stone right now. I do know that whatever our record is, it is better than being 0-0. And for that I will be thankful.
