Why not THIS guy for GM?

Stay connected for news and updates

Jim Irsay must choose a man as GM who has proven himself (unlike Chris Polian) to be a good judge of talent, and has a track record of helping to draft solid (preferably star) players during his career thus far. Going by many of the articles that have been written about why certain people should be the choice to oversee operations in the Circle City, this Colts fan decided that he should point something out.

Reading articles on Mark Ross, we find the names of the "great" players that have been drafted while he was working for whichever team he was on at the time. The same is true for almost every other GM candidate. Who have they drafted in the past that proves they are good talent evaluators?

The point to this whole article is after the jump (I've always wanted to say that)...

How about for a GM we hire someone (and this person does exist, and is not currently employed as a GM, thus is available for that position) who has the following track record:

1. Drafted a 5-time Pro Bowl WR

2. Drafted arguably the best DE currently still in the league.

3. Drafted two pro-bowl RBs.

4. Drafted a defensive player of the year

5. Drafted another DE who is easily in the top-10 in the league

6. Put together a team that went to two Super Bowls

7. Had a total of three losing seasons in 14 years

8. Drafted the best QB in NFL history.

That's right (if you hadn't guessed already), I am talking about Bill Polian. No, I am not honestly suggesting that we call Bill and apologize and ask him to come back. Instead, I am asking those who write "we should bring ______ in as GM" to give reasons beyond who they have drafted. Because we can pick and choose the best from almost anyone's drafting career and make them look good.

What I am asking is that people start giving reasons why __________ is superior to Bill Polian. Naming off three or four guys that ____ has helped draft in the past isn't good enough. Polian's top 6 or 7 draft picks (with the Colts) eclipses anyone else's picks. What else does this guy bring to the table that makes him a better candidate than the man that just got fired?

Just food for thought.
