I can't believe

Jim Caldwell is going to be the coach again. I am not totally disappointed but I am close to it. Grigson's keen eye is obviously for players and not coaching. It is obvious now, that Irsay completely blames the Polians. I'm just not seeing what either one of them are seeing in this man. I've only seen game mismanagement, poor in game adjustments and a completely lost look on the sidelines. The next A.P. or Ray Lewis must be coming out next year for them to want that number one pick again.

Now it is even more imperative that the front office assembles a dream team staff and players so the Colts can do well in spite of Caldwell's pi$$ poor coaching..........Feeling sick now!!!!!!!

If Teerlinck and Alan Williams are fired, I will be reasonably happy, though Caldwell and Christensen should be too.

by Ty46 on Jan 15, 2012 7:41 AM EST reply actions

You know that Teerlinck is one of the best D-line coaches ever? Seriously, listen to the way guys talk about him. Teerlinck should be kept no matter who the coach is.

The Colts have just had horrible luck with their defensive tackles, though that may change with Nevis.

Agree

Teerlinck is a beast

Really? Apart from 2 guys the whole DL underperforms for many many years now.

Especially the DTs, none of them develop, none of them are consistent.

by Ty46 on Jan 15, 2012 5:05 PM EST up reply actions

If I give you a honda civic you can make that honda go pretty fast with the right upgrades and tuning, if I give you a corvette with the same amount of effort and cash you will blow away any civic ever built.

In Teerlinck’s case it has a lot more to do with level of talent and much less to do with poor coaching.

freeney

cant be a 15-18 sack guy when we have no dt help at all. the qb can just step right up

by omahacolt on Jan 15, 2012 6:24 PM EST up reply actions

Ok, Moala got better. Stats often lie, but he passed the eye test. Foster has been a great find for a late round pick. Hughes got a little better, but the light hasn’t clicked and that’s not necessarily on the coach.

Do you also blame Teerlinck for Quinn Pitcock getting addicted to video games and quitting football after a great rookie year? What about Ed Johnson being a moron?
It seems like you have unrealistic expectations for this football team and expect every single player to be all pro

by TrueBlue87 on Jan 15, 2012 6:25 PM EST up reply actions

lol

moala is trash
hughes is worse than trash
and foster was not a great find. the guy shouldnt be in the league

by omahacolt on Jan 15, 2012 6:37 PM EST up reply actions

I will have to agree with Ty

The Dline play has been horrible. I’ve been saying it all season but if you watch any of the games, the Dline stands straight up at the snap of the ball….they ultimately get blown off of the ball but I can only attribute that to poor coaching…….nothing from the Colts play says ANY of the coaches should be retained. Under Caldwell, they have steadily declined.

I just feel like the window of opportunity will be lost if they look to maintain continuity. What I mean by that is this is the time to rebuild from top to bottom. New coaches, new philosophy, the whole shabang!!!!!

by Dito29 on Jan 15, 2012 7:32 PM EST up reply actions

You understand a new philosphy/scheme means the window with Manning is shut completely and a full-on rebuild is on? It takes 2-4 years to competely change a system.

A final run with Manning means keeping the Tampa-2/Cover-2 system and probably many of better coaches like Murphy, Teerlinck and Reich.

Just hope that Caldwell isn't allowed to choose his own assistants

His in game calls are one thing, but his choice in coordinators and assistants has been terrible. The team needs a defensive genius to make this work and obviously Caldwells buddies from Penn State were not getting it done.

Extremely disappointing. I hope this doesn’t mean Peyton will be paid the 28mil as well.

Of Course

It is just a rumor but discouraging none the less. If Adam Schefter reports, then we should really be worried.

by Dito29 on Jan 15, 2012 9:59 AM EST reply actions

who Knows. he MIGHT surprise us.

If it is true that Polian was controlling everything than maybe we haven’t seen anything from how Caldwell would handle things. Not saying that he WILL succeed. But maybe we’ll see a different side of him.

by BleedingBlueAndWhite on Jan 15, 2012 11:17 AM EST via mobile reply actions

He is a bad game manager

And players said at times when they sucked, there was no adjustment at half time.

And usually, a person’s facial expression tells what’s inside the head. Caldwell seems dumb and lost. Also, he, like Dungy is loyal to terrible assistants.

by Ty46 on Jan 15, 2012 11:45 AM EST up reply actions

A LOT

of coaches in the NFL are bad game managers. Overly cautious so they can’t be second guessed. Try watching an Eagles game sometime, Reid is the worst.
Caldwell is a good man and it appears that the players very much like him. He never complained about the hand dealt him and the team never quit on him. The Colts have to ask themselves if there is really anyone out there that is better?

Calm down

Nothing is coming from ACTUAL colts sources. If JMV tweeted it I would worry. I dont see any reason to get all up in arms over this as of now. Let’s just wait and see. On a positive note…look at all of the garbage OC’s and DC’s getting head coaching gigs around the NFL right now. There is a lot of upheaval this year. More so than in years past. It might not be a bad idea to keep some continuity around west 56th street. Although after watching the 49ers win last night….MAN i want a guy like Jim Harbaugh as our head coach. Those players would walk right into Mt. Vesuvius if he told em it would help win a championship…Looks like we should have gotten rid of Caldwell a year earlier! Could’ve had Captain Comeback here with the Colts!

by pattymac on Jan 15, 2012 11:56 AM EST reply actions

What I take away from that game is

How bad our DB coach is. SF has a bunch of CBs performing their best ever. They were not even close to this level previously in their careers. And our CBs have no clue, when to turn around and find the ball and how to be aggressive.

by Ty46 on Jan 15, 2012 12:16 PM EST up reply actions

Pattymac

We don’t have any insider information to the front office so our job is to react to rumors, complain, suggest, criticize and everything else. Simply put we are just voicing our opinions and feelings aka “blogging”.

Yes, we know change doesn’t mean better but continuity sure doesn’t either. If the Colts aren’t careful, they will wake up and be the Celtics of football!!!!

by Dito29 on Jan 15, 2012 1:38 PM EST up reply actions

Caldwell Retained

The source that reported said 2 weeks b4 Polians were fired that it would happen, also reported b4 others Manning would not play the entire season that happened, according to his timeline 4 days that would put it Tuesday, day after MLK holiday. There just aren’t many great options avalable, probably Caldwell gets a 1 year audition like Mangini @ Cleveland, in addition the 2012 season is most likely a lost cause due to Cap issues. I’m not saying I’m in favor of retaining, just not surprised, after all he lasted the Polian Purge, and the new GM has had plenty of time to get rid of Caldwell. Maybe I’m wrong, the fanbase will hate this, but over time it will pass.

Thats it!

Time to bring Gruden in lol

by miketyson on Jan 15, 2012 12:59 PM EST reply actions

With

all of the coaching changes, I would venture to say that Caldwell is the “worse” coach in the league. Caldwell + continuity = another losing season and poor game management. The only way Caldwell is fine is if we have the best front office, coordinators and players in the world. Even then, his incompetence will challenge the best of them.

Not looking good for getting rid of pricey veterans and managing the salary cap. If this is any indication, Colts moving forward without “running anybody off”!!! My enthusiasm has certainly been tempered…………

by Dito29 on Jan 15, 2012 1:29 PM EST reply actions

Correction

Caldwell + Manning = AFC South Division champs again.

Just sayin.

If Caldwell stays...

I hope Grigson can at least bring in new coordinators to redo the defense and special teams.
