My Dream Scenario for the Next Head Coaching Regime of the Colts

With the Colts brass falling by the second in what appears to be a major house cleaning process taking place by the from office, the main focus from fans has been centered around the status of Manning as well as who the next HC will be. I have been playing with several scenarios in my head at which one has intrigued me the most. While most of Indy land is holding their breath on what will become of Manning this season, I think I have an inside track on where he might end up. It would not surprise me if PM was our next OC. I don't think there's a soul out there who wouldn't think that Peyton would make a damn good OC for the Colts. So here is my dream scenario. PM becomes the next OC of the team, which in my eyes would kill two birds with one stone.

A) It would fill a crucial position of need for the team

B) He would be the perfect mentor/QB coach for Andrew Luck

This would solve so many problems on so many fronts. For starters, it would end the threat of any QB controversy (if there ever was one to begin with). It would also ensure that one of the games most brilliant offensive minds would stay in house. I don't think any of us want to find out what it would be like trying to go up against Peyton if he were to coach another team (Especially in our own division). Now as far as Head Coaching candidates, the one that intrigues me the most would be Mike Zimmer. He's a defensive guy who's track record speaks for itself. Everywhere the man has been, his defenses have been in the top ten (See Buffalo, St Louis, and Cincy). We would have a viable one, two punch that would transform the Colts into a much more balanced team and a welcome change from those of recent past. If we are honest with ourselves, the areas of need have been ignored for far too long due to the brilliance of Manning and our love affair with his in-game heroics. Since "change" is the mantra, you might as well do it right. I like the idea of having a defensive minded Head Coach to lead this new regime that is on it's way. If any of you have watched the games from last week, defense once again prevailed in the playoffs like it has in so many others.

Defense has always been the difference in the post season regardless of how much in love the media is with any team that lights up the score board throughout the regular season each and every year. Defense (Or lack thereof) brought down the reigning SB champs as well as the new "greatest show on turf" Brees led Saints. Both teams of which were heavily favored to win by most of the major sports personalities. The Colts need to return to being the grimy, smash mouthed team they once were from the days of Harbaugh and the "Captain Comeback/Kardiac kids" of old. We already have a bowling ball of a back in Delone Carter who can fit the bill as the punishing runner we need to grind out close games. We have the number one pick in the draft, giving us the opportunity to grab perhaps the best QB prospect the league has ever seen since well, Peyton Manning. Inspite of the disappointing season we just had, these are exciting times here in Indy with what I am sure will be filled with a few unexpected twists, curve balls, and surprises sure to come. I just hope one of them is the dream scenario I just wrote about. Till next season folks.

Deywalka signing off for my last SB article.
