Would You Be Upset If The Colts Hired Jim Tressel As Their Head Coach?
Jim Tressel may or may not be the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. The general consensus of most local media is hiring Tressel would be a tough sell. Personally, I think Tressel is a fraud, but that's my opinion. Others who work here at Stampede Blue (ahem, Mr. Stew Blake) think highly of Tressel. Both of us believe he will NOT be the Colts' head coach.
But, what if he is? Would it piss you off? Vote and chit-chat below.

Would be a great hire
But Irsay won’t hire him if the fanbase is gonna hate him that much…
Too bad to, because they will likely end up with another crap coach unless there is a trick up Irsay/Grigson’s sleeve

we just had conservative
why go ultra conservative? And why did so many Ohio St players become busts in the NFL? I Think we need some aggression in our coach and someone who will usher in a cut throat era of accepting only POSTSEASON greatness

OSU busts
Like
Don’ta Whitner
Will Smith
Nate Clements
Nick Mangold
Ted Ginn
Beanie Wells
AJ Hawk
Santonio Holmes
Chris Gamble
Malcom Jenkins
Some pretty decent starting players not HOF’ers…but all guys Indy could use…
Obviously NFL scouts disagree because OSU has roughly 50 people in the league. Some were drafted too high but if you can’t play you don’t stay in the NFL 8-10 yrs…
Please don’t let your jealousy of Ohio State cloud the truth. Just say I hate OSU and leave it at that

I'm not jealous of OSU
that’s ignorance to state that a disagreement is equivalent to ignorance. Ted Ginn is a bust for his draft position. Quin pitcock, gholston, gonzalez, clarett…
Beanie is always hurt man.

When you place 100 people in the NFL in 15yrs half will wash out...
Ginn was drafted too high but is a ST superstar!
by (206)NightRidah on Jan 23, 2012 11:04 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Wish we had a ST superstar.
And, I’m talking about a returner.
Carmichael over all
No brainer with it, Pete Carmichael Jr. is who we need, a strong offensive mind that has been dealing with a great quarterback the past couple of years in Drew Brees. So with our current quarterback dilemma why not go ahead and hire a guy that will fit in the most with quarterbacks that are comfortable calling their own plays (seeing as more than likely we will draft Luck).

No, but...
Ravens defense coordinator. Now that sounds interesting!

No
College coaches don’t often succeed in the NFL because it takes different skills to coach in the NFL.
I’d rather see Zimmer.
Like Jimmy Johnson and Jim Harbaugh right?
If you can coach you can coach…

Harbuagh had NFL experience and ran an NFL pro type offense in college
That’s far different from Tressel.

OSU ran a pro style buddy
by (206)NightRidah on Jan 23, 2012 8:59 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Harbaugh was a QB coach a few years
Whopty freakin doo…
He is a great coach…period!
Tressel is a great coach…period!
That said, there are other better candidates…if they could get Pagano or Zimmer that would be better…
I prefer JT to a washout retread but I am not saying he is the top candidate
by (206)NightRidah on Jan 23, 2012 9:01 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Any kind of NFL experience matters
I definitely have a problem giving an NFL head coaching job to someone that has never coached in the NFL before. College is different. I don’t think they’re putting him in a position to succeed there.
Is Nick Saban a great coach? Steve Spurrier? Lou Holtz? Bobby Petrino? The list goes on and on.

Sabah would be a good NFL coach
He just bolted for a better job…
coaching at a powerhouse like OSU, Bama, LSU, SC, Texas, or Oklahoma is different and equivalent to NFL from an organizational an pressure standpoint. JT ran a pro style 8 years and then used Pryor in a pistol spread type of attack…so he coached to his talent…
At his core JT is an highly organized coach that runs plays D and limits turnovers and focuses on special teams play…
Sounds a lot like the philosophy of Pittsburgh an Baltimore…the difference is that he would inherit a hungry Manning and or a young phenom in Luck

Not with Pryor they didn't
They did with Troy Smith though.

Pro Style?
Yeah Captain Comeback runs the 1990’s Bears Offense.
That would suck
I don’t like his coaching style, I’ve seen him outcoached by the great coaches far too many times, I think he is a fraud but then again so are a lot of coaches (ahem Belichick), and most of all college coaches without any NFL experience at all are destined to fail in the NFL. The NFL’s different than college, I’m not sure why that’s hard for some people to comprehend. I’m not sure why it would make any sense at all to name someone head coach of your team if they have no NFL experience at all and have never been exposed to the NFL game. And don’t tell me this replay management job or whatever the hell he did this year prepared him for the NFL. I’m talking about actually coaching.
He’s kind of hard to root for after all this as well. No college will even hire him now. It would just be a bad idea all the way around.
Pagano...nice!!!
Just read this!!!

Only a defensive coordinator for 1 year
Stick with Zimmer.
by Coltsfan1345 on Jan 23, 2012 9:01 PM EST up reply actions
Either would be great to me!
by (206)NightRidah on Jan 23, 2012 9:02 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Harbaugh is a fraud as a coach he isn't that good
Trust me…he didn’t even have enough sense to call timeout for his kicker yesterday. Pagano likely has more hand in their success than given credit for…
by (206)NightRidah on Jan 23, 2012 9:05 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Wrong Harbaugh.
It was John Harbaugh of the Ravens that didn’t call a timeout for his kicker. Jim Harbaugh is the 49ers coach.
Jim Harbaugh is no fraud.
I knew who I was Talking about guy...
Did Captain Comeback lose a game on a FG? Is Pagano the Niners’ DC?!

Had a decent coaching career in the nfl though…

Doesn't matter
He is a long time coach and a smart man and relatively young at 51.
Also brings out the best of players.
I would
only be upset if Tressel is hired because I think there are better options, plus I don’t think he is aggressive enough.
The thing is that I'm not against Tressel because of the drama
I just don’t think that college coaching immediately translates to NFL coaching. I would be all for hiring him as an assistant HC or something like that, though. It’s just that he’s not in a place in his career where he’d be able to be the HC for an NFL team.
I am a college student that sleeps with a St. Louis Cardinals Fredbird Pillow Pet, and I am proud of it.
Tressel...
Should be a coordinator or Asst. HC here in Indy or with some other teams. I think he can be a successful NFL coach, but he needs to take some lumps first.
When it comes to future head coaches for our team, I have tunnel vision. At the other end of that tunnel is a speeding freight train. But instead of a standard train whistle, it blares out Mike Zimmer’s favorite song at 300 decibles.
I see great things in baseball. It's our game - the American game. It will take our people out-of-doors, fill them with oxygen, give them a larger physical stoicism. Tend to relieve us from being a nervous, dyspeptic set. Repair these losses, and be a blessing to us. ~Walt Whitman
I disagree with what he did...and
we all make dumb choices, I think he should get a crack at a coordinator spot but not a head coaching bid yet. What do you guys think of Hugh Jackson as the HC ? I believe he was wrongly ousted in Oakland after a descent season for a team on the way back up.
the big ten bias
is unbelieveable. tressel is also a choke who was benefited with one of the worst pass interference calls in history to get a national title during a game that saw mcgahee’s knee blown backwards. no thanks. the colts can do so much better. especially with this rebuild and the opportunity to own the next decade
colts love to all

I dont have a problem with tressle.
Im not sold on his as a coach just yet. Maybe a coordinator or position coach to start out.

I'd be completely fine with Tressel as the coach
I’d feel much more confident with him and his HC track record over a no name coordinator.

The Worst Option
I’m 71, have been a Colts fan since Buddy Young was a running back for the Boston Yanks (yeah, thats way before the Colts wre in existence). To me Tressel is totally without character as demonstrated by his behavior at OSU.. Boldly lying to the NCAA, not to protect his players, but to protect himself. He should be sent packing, NOT accomodated. If management is so desparate to hire such an individual I will have to re-examine any loyalty I have to this organization.
College coaches have such an awesome track record in the pros
This has to be a no brainer.
Around these parts, a man could get hurt for wearing purple.
