Peyton stays?
As I drive to and from work each day I hear more and more from sports radio about how the writing is on the wall. From Scherleth to Greeny to JMV to Kravitz the all hint or for some, state the same thing. With Pagano as the coach and Irsay cleaning house, Peyton is gone. Well I tend to disagree. Sure Irsay cleaned house and fired just about everyone then hired Grigson and Pagano. Two names they didn't fire were Clyde Christianson, and Jim Bob Cooter. Why would they do that? Simple, Peyton isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Why would they keep Clyde and Cooter if they were going to release Manning? I guess the talking heads are right, the writing is on the wall. But it's in braille. Which they cant read.
Irsay is too smart of an owner and too smart of a fan to let Manning walk out of Indy anytime soon. In Irsay's mind there are only two options.
1. March 8th comes and goes, see ya at camp 18.
2. Manning retires.
There is no other option.

finally....
some one is talking some sense… I agree with you, and it was exactly what i thought as soon I heard we hired a defensive minded head coach. To release a healthy Peyton Manning is the most ridiculous thing I keep hearing. He wants to stay, Irsay said on national TV that if he is healthy he is coming back. Until I hear other wise that is what i am going with. i guess it is just a more sexy story that he is leaving….
IF MANNING IS NOT
healthy by March 8, which he probably will not be, he will be released. There really isn’t another option. The team cannot commit another $28 million to a player they cannot count on. I think all Colt’s fans should be prepared.
MANNING'S CAP HIT
if he is traded or released would be around $40 million the first year and about $33 million the second year. Way to much of a risk for a 36 year old player who may or may be healthy.
Im not sure if you know this or not, But Irsay is kind of liberal with his money. Do you know how much he paid for the Keuroc book? I don’t think he has a problem gambling on a proven winner.

How do you assume he won't be healthy?

The reports
are that he has been throwing and was throwing well last we heard, near the end of the season.

Why?
Where is the benefit to letting everyone know you’re fine until you have to. Peyton has said he’d rather not have anyone know. He wants to focus on working out, getting healthy.

March 8th
doubtful peyton is fully healthy, we have to release him. Peyton can still choose to resign with colts in a new contract if healthy by the summer but will most likely wind up with another team
Was thinking the same thing
The reason they got a Defensive minded coach was because the Offense is set. We have it down pat with Peyton under center. So i think three things. PM retire, PM OC or some other type of assistant, and PM under center showing Luck how to work this O. The D needs a new scheme not necessarily a over haul. 1 CB and 1 S in the draft or free agency and I think we are set to make a run at other title.
If he isn't 100% by March 8
He will be gone in some fashion unless they delay the March 8 bonus date. It is the cap hit, not the dollars the will force the move.
"If they want me to be a crazy, emotional, frenzied fan in section 603, then they can't expect me to be reasonable about the business of football"
Hello?
Have you seen the latest Kravitz article? And I quote:
Irsay was asked, “Should fans come to grips with the idea there’s a legitimate chance Peyton won’t be on this roster?”
He answered, “Well, I think fans have already understood that.”
Now everyone can stop kidding themselves. Manning is gone. If he was healthy, he would go out there to show the team, and they would probably find a way to make it all work another couple of years. The bottom line is that he is not healthy, so he can’t show anyone anything.
Manning is super-competitive and will not give up on coming back. I hope to God he does, but you can’t roll the dice on that knowing you could clear that cap space and land who is expected to be to next big franchise QB. They can sign Luck and still have a ton of money to spend on healthy free agents. Irsay cannot hamstring the team for the next few years to pay Manning for what he has done in the past.
i'll admit it
its really not looking good…

Irsay has now publicly stated his position
From Kravitz most recent article:
Irsay was asked, “Should fans come to grips with the idea there’s a legitimate chance Peyton won’t be on this roster?” He answered, “Well, I think fans have already understood that. This is a neck, not an ankle, not a shoulder. Often times the NFL is criticized for putting people out there and for putting them at risk. I’m not going to do that. . . What he’s done for the city, the state, what he means to me and our fans, we’re not going to be in that situation. I just think him and I have to talk and see where his health is and go from there.”
This seems to be a huge break in this story and I will be surprised if these comments do not become a topic of conversation.
Irsay said that he would pay Peyton the option bonus if he were healthy prior to the nationally televised game with the Texans. But based upon the quotes listed above, it seems that he can now move forward without Peyton and justify his decision based upon a concern for Peyton’s long term health. Whether Peyton wants to continue to play or not, Irsay will not allow Peyton to risk his health as a Colt.

How you cut that quote is very important.
To me, after that first sentence, the conversation is that Irsay assumes we are smart enough to see he won’t put Peyton out there if unhealthy. Why would he say, oh no PM will be here no matter what? Why would you say that?
