Irsay calls Manning Politician-Final proof Manning is gone

Jim Irsay called out Manning on his twitter feed yesterday claiming that he is still paying him his salary for last year without him playing a single down and does not regret the decision and thinks it is the right thing to do...However on the other hand he feels Manning should not have spoken to the Media. Maybe Irsay forgot Manning was the one to introduce the walk away clause last year and has previously taken a pay cut to help sign other starters....they say a man's memory is short lived.

Link below http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/colts/story/2012-01-26/irsay-manning-politician/52807460/1

Quote from the article

""I don't think it's in a good interest to paint the horseshoe in a negative light, I really don't," Irsay said. "He's such a big part of that and everything else, but the horseshoe always comes first."

The quote also makes me think he has made up his mind on the divorce. Those are definetly not words of reconciliation.

It is extremely sad that this is the sorry state of affairs in Indy right now.Irsay would not have an profitable team and Lucas Oil if it were not for Peyton. Peyton will always be like a caged lion with this team.It is time to walk away when the owner starts calling you a politican after all that you have done for the city and team. It would be best for Peyton and the team.

Sad

Both of these guys have always talked about keeping things ‘in house’ and now this. As Irsay mentioned, they are both competitive people and obviously they can’t let comments slide.

They both have very valid points but doing it through the media is just asking for damage to their relationship.

Hey bud

You know what the “final proof” will be that Peyton’s gone? When he is actually no longer a Colt.

Believe in Blue.

Groan......I get 2 points from this exchange

1) I agree, and hate it, but if the Horseshoe comes first, this means Irsay will doing whatever he needs to ensure the legacy of the team. And this obviously means now that Peyton is gone.
2) Following Jim’s logic, then why, if he wants to keep it all in house, is he turning right around and calling PM out on freaking Twitter? Makes THEM BOTH look bad.

Sigh…..

Dear Diary, Kevin is so hot. Today he was raking the yard. God I wish he'd throw me into that pile of leaves.

And I wonder what Pro Football Talk has to say about this

Man, read the comments, everyone in the league is lovin’ this spat.

there will be blood.......

this is getting ugly but I agree with Irsay…. kinda. I think we all know Manning is an astute business man, excellent player, but a overly competitive and some would say control freak so I bet players, coaches, personnel, etc walk on eggshells around him as well. But Irsay calling him out is more hypocritical since he’s doing what he just bashed Manning for. Manning’s time here reminds me somewhat like LeBron (minus the posse unless you count the twins) in that he was given the keys to the franchise and told you control things. Now though… change is here Manning doesn’t know how to handle this blitz (no 3-4 pun intended).

Ultimately, I think its time for #18 to ride into the sunset we call…. the SF 49ners and win his second SB.

There is a lot of reading between the lines going on here.

It amazes me how someone can read the article and take it as Irsay is saying that Manning is gone. I read the article and conclude that if Irsay was willing to pay Manning 26 million in a year that he knew Manning was injured, then why wouldn’t he be willing to pay a 28 Million dollar bonus to a healthy Manning (I understand his status is still up in the air). Manning gives us the best chance at winning a Superbowl; let’s be realistic this team is getting older, but there is continuity on the team (with the players). With a revamped defense this team could win another superbowl with Manning under center. The final proof that Manning will not be in a Colts uniform IMO is when either one of two things happen. 1. The press conference is scheduled and they announce Manning will become a free agent. 2. When Clyde Christensen is fired as Offensive coordinator. Why else would they keep him if they weren’t planning on bringing Manning back.

Spot on

Hope to see you posting more. I like your logic and your way of thinking. Too many people here are trying to read between every single line of every single article written.

MANNING

will not be healthy by March 8. The Colts cannot and will not pick up his $28 million option because it will cripple the teams salary cap going forward if Manning gets injured or can’t perform to his standards. He will be released and Luck will be his replacement. It’s pretty simple.

Your opinions flat out SUCK!

Why don’t you just keep them to yourself!

BECAUSE

they are wrong or because you disagree with them?

by javen on Jan 27, 2012 12:35 PM EST up reply actions

Better yet...

He will cripple the teams salary cap even if he’s healthy.

Amazing!

How is it other teams with HIGH priced ,HIGH profile QB’s seem to do it? OH! That’s right, they have Great managment that do there jobs. NOT fans who think they can do it better! NE does it and I will bet my house the SAINTS do it with Brees!

by shoospa on Jan 27, 2012 10:46 AM EST up reply actions

Huh?

Our management has done a horrible job with the salary cap in the past few seasons:

Signing Gary Brackett to a huge deal.
Signing Bob Sanders to a huge deal (although it probably had to be done).
Signing Kelvin Hayden to a huge deal.
Structuring Freeney’s contract so that he’s a $19 million cap hit this season.

That’s not Peyton’s fault. Peyton, when healthy, has always been underpaid – but still a cap burden. It’s management’s job to maximize the leftover cap room to field a competitive team, and the Colts have failed for quite some time, and will be paying the price in 2012.

The problem is...

Their isn’t continuity.

The offensive line will start 4 (maybe 5) new players than from 2010 (Manning’s last season).
Manning has never played with D. Carter before, and clearly didn’t like working with D. Brown in his short timespan. Addai is likely gone, so is Reggie Wayne. Who knows about Dallas Clark and Pierre Garcon.
There’s a new GM – as much as we hated Bill Polian (deserved), he was Manning’s close friend.
There’s a new Coach – same situation with Polian; don’t forget that Caldwell was Manning’s QB Coach for a number of years.
There will likely be a new O.C.

Also, it’s not really feasible to field a SB-contender around Peyton Manning (assuming they draft Luck instead of trading the pick). You can’t pay Peyton Manning $35 million, Dwight Freeney $19 million, sign Andrew Luck, and still have room to bring back Reggie Wayne, Jeff Satruday, and Robert Mathis. And even if we pulled off that miracle – we haven’t signed anybody (or drafted anybody except rounds 2-7) that make this team better than we were going into this season!

And since this started Peyton and Irsay are using Kravitz as their tool

Two rounds of responses. We are looking very foolish now…

Media!

This whole debate is nothing more than media propaganda! Just a way to keep people/fans interested! I for one will wait and see what March 7-8 brings!

by shoospa on Jan 27, 2012 1:09 AM EST reply actions

think about this

what if this whole thing is just a way to drive up the price of the #1 pick? if everyone thinks that manning and irsay are fighting and irsay isnt bringing him back, then that makes it more likely that they draft luck, making luck more valuable…..

by BIG JOHN D on Jan 27, 2012 7:58 AM EST reply actions

Rather elaborate ruse no?

Yeah Manning is gone I know people want to hold onto their conspiracy theories but he’s going to be a 36 year old QB after 3 neck procedures while we have a future QB in the NFL draft take out the name Peyton Manning and we all know what the answer is.

Well, this has turned into a big issue that is nationwide. As a Cowboys fan I listened to countless things some colts fans said about us in regards as to how we do business. The better ran franchise motto kept coming up. Well, as it turns out your owner isn’t any different than any other team. He’s decided to be hands on,so welcome to the new world. One thing I can say is that JJ will tell a player face to face if he’s not coming back so this situation would’ve been over with. I remember Irsay’s father and what he did. I also remember what JJ did to Landry and to this very day he’s still paying the price. Your owner showed his true colors in regards to Manning and you can’t believe it. Well, you just found out that he’s not any better than any other owner. Once the player is no good (regardless of who it is) they’re thrown away like a bag of garbage. He was always like that, but Polian held hiim in check.
