What are the odds Pagano...?

...will talk Grigson into going after two big free agents on the Ravens' D...Cory Redding and/or Ladarius Webb?

30% ? 50 % ? 80% ? A great corner is a great corner, and with Pagano's comments about Mathis, sounds like he might rather have a big DE like Redding and blitz Mathis from the outside LB, much like Phillips did with Mario Williams.

Having a couple of guys like this might work wonders for our D. Of course, we could buy several defensive players to fit multiple schemes if we had an additional $28 million lying around. It would break my heart to see 18 go, but a killer defense might ease the pain considerably.

Not sure on the new CBA yet

But I think he’s RFA. The Ravens will lock up guys like Ray Rice and Joe Flacco. If we are rebuilding I would trade a #1 round pick since I think that’s the max com. pick they can tag him with and he’s worth it. Webb was against #1 guys defending with around 50% defended with a incompletion and he should fit our scheme.

Each year I hope the Warriors, Colts, Cavs, and the Magic get better yet the opposite happens.

Webb is RFA, Redding might come

He was paid 2-3 million a year the last 3 seasons.

You can’t buy several FAs. If Manning, Diles, Painter are cut, Freeney re-signed to lower the cap hit, Bullitt and Brackett cut after June 1, then you have enough money for Mathis, Wayne, Garcon, Redding, maybe Tamme and 1-3 veteran minimum guys

by Ty46 on Jan 28, 2012 2:01 AM EST reply actions

If Manning goes then I think Wayne goes with him. That clears a ton of cap space. We would definately have room to franchise tag and or extend Mathis and then add a top CB like Grimes, Finnegan, or Rodgers, a NT and a guy like Redding. Whether we can get those guys to play here is another story.

Grimes will probably be franchised for 9 million

Rodgers won’t leave SF and Finnegan is a douche.

FREENEY WILL NOT RESTRUCTURE

Why should he? The way this organization is starting to treat there people. If I was him, I would get as much money as fast as I could because he will be one of the next to be on the chopping block!

by shoospa on Jan 28, 2012 12:41 PM EST up reply actions

jesus

the organization isnt treating people poorly. they fired some people. that shit happens. especially in football

For once,

I agree with you. It does happen.

As for shoospa, if he restructures he will, in fact, make more money over the remaining years of his career. If Pagano wants him back, they’ll get it done.

by AnotherWriter on Jan 28, 2012 5:26 PM EST up reply actions

THEY ARE

treating him so badly that his cap hit is $19 million. He’ll restructure if its the best deal he can get. It’s professional football and it’s always about the money.

by javen on Jan 28, 2012 2:02 PM EST up reply actions

WHO CARES

I could care less what his cap hit is! They gave him a contract to play and he has played at a PRO BOWL level! Why should he do a DAMM thing to lower there cap and what he is owed NOW? That’s HIS bussiness end. Would YOU take less money at your job because the company may be struggling? I think not! If all you want to do is restructure contracts to fit the circumstance, WHY even have them in the first place! Throw out all the STAT and FIGURES you want. Doesn’t make you the NO IT ALL!

by shoospa on Jan 28, 2012 2:26 PM EST up reply actions

clueless

he wont be taking less money.

by omahacolt on Jan 28, 2012 2:51 PM EST up reply actions

1. It’s not less money. He would be lowering his 2012 cap number in exchange for a longer contract. There would be no hometown discount thing going on here. I’m not sure I would even do that though as GM because when Peyton, Wayne, Saturday, etc are off the roster we won’t have any cap problems and could even be front loading contracts to make room for future contracts.

2. Just to help you out – it is ’couldn’t care less’ not ‘could care less’ and ‘KNOW IT ALL’ not ‘NO IT ALL’.

?

NEVER! Did I say ANYBODY would be taking less money.( I said OWED NOW!) I am well aware of how restructuring works! And for correcting my English or Grammer! Excuse the hell out of me. I didn’t need to do well in school as I was an “ATHELETE” NOT A NERD! They let me slide by! You know, there are a few people on these sights that think ONLY there opinions count and that ONLY they are the one’s who can be right! YOU are not experts! YOU might even be CLUELESS!

I’m a huge nerd. Why is that a bad thing? You’re a good athlete and I am a chemist. It doesn’t really matter. I’m just saying if you clean up your grammar and excessive word screaming people will take your points more seriously. I know I have too many typos when I write so I make an effort to clean them up so people notice my points not my typos.

Notes on grammar/proper writing technique:
shoospa wrote:
? [Never start a sentence with punctuation.]

NEVER! [This is a sentence fragment, not a full thought, improper punctuation use.]

Did I say ANYBODY would be taking less money.( I said OWED NOW!) [Again, none of these are sentences, and the first clause should be followed by a question mark.]

I am well aware of how restructuring works! And for correcting my English or Grammer! [You don’t need to capitalize english and grammar. Notice the -ar ending on grammar as well. Additionally, this is another phrase and not a proper sentence.]

Excuse the hell out of me. [This is not a sentence, but a second clause which should have been separated from the previous clause by a comma.]

I didn’t need to do well in school as I was an "ATHELETE" NOT A NERD! [Here you spelled athlete wrong, didn’t use a comma, and proper logic is not being used.]

They let me slide by! [Personally, I take issue with ending sentences with prepositions, though some people think it is okay grammatically.]

You know, there are a few people on these sights that think ONLY there opinions count and that ONLY they are the one’s who can be right! [What a mess. First, you misspelled sites as sights and their as there. Second, the construction of this sentence is awkward.]

YOU are not experts! YOU might even be CLUELESS! [Too many exclamation points water down your point.]

[Overall, you have a few decent sentences here, but nothing resembling good writing or logic. Just because you were a jock in high school doesn’t mean you can’t be bothered to learn how to write properly. I was an athlete as well, but I happen to have several degrees in english and composition. These two things are not mutually exclusive. Sory to burst your bubble, shoospa.]

Thanks Teacher

I will enroll in Night school. Just to make you proud! By most of the comments I read. I didn’t know you had to be smart. Just opinionated!

by shoospa on Jan 28, 2012 10:23 PM EST up reply actions

Good thing about blogs, especially this one

is we just come here to talk football without worrying about grammar police or people resorting to name calling when they disagree or just flat out being ugly when they can’t see beyond Peyton manning…………wait……., oh hi AnotherWriter.

by Dito29 on Jan 29, 2012 12:06 AM EST up reply actions

Who is name calling?

I’m just pointing out that if you want to play that holier than thou, I was a jock and above you in school card, its childish. Education doesn’t make someone nerdy, it makes them educated. Those people are able to communicate better and speak clearly about their ideas while articulating their stance. It isn’t bad to have an opinion, but if you aren’t educated enough to articulate it clearly, we aren’t obligated to take you seriously.

I don’t require anyone to be smart, but when you come at people for calling you out about your spelling and grammar, calling them nerds for knowing how to put a sentence together makes you look bad.

And Dito29, my stance isn’t that I am anti-Luck, but I just happen to believe a healthy Peyton is better. If we let Manning go and choose Luck, I’ll gladly support my team as he leads it.

another writer is

pretty much a condescending prick

might as well get used ot it. or ignore him.

by omahacolt on Jan 29, 2012 1:11 AM EST up reply actions

I love that I'm condescending

yet you’re the one who is close-minded, chooses to call everyone wrong flat out, even though you know nothing about the Colts’ plans, and wants to have an argument without ever offering any evidence for your arguments.

But, I’m condescending. Even when someone comes out and says, “I was a jock, I didn’t have to learn anything in school and you’re a nerd because you did,” I’m the condescending one. I love the hypocrisy and outright ridiculous shit you people say around here.

by AnotherWriter on Jan 29, 2012 1:31 AM EST up reply actions

Case in point,

you don’t support your argument. You understand what condescending is right?

^— Condescension.

by AnotherWriter on Jan 29, 2012 1:36 AM EST up reply actions

another great example

you are supporting my argument for me. good joke though. i have heard that one before

by omahacolt on Jan 29, 2012 2:06 AM EST up reply actions

You can lower his cap hit by even 8-9 million

And he would get the same amount of money in the next 12 months.

So it’s not a pay cut.

by Ty46 on Jan 28, 2012 2:44 PM EST up reply actions

CORRECT

it is a restructure and I think the Colts and Freeney will get something done. Defensive ends tend to do well into their mid-thirties and he is still a dynamic player.
