One team's garbage is another team's treasure..

Looks like we are hiring from the steelers yet again, given by what Adam Schefter is reporting, the Colts are looking to hire Steelers LB coach Keith Butler as our new Defensive Coordinator.

https://twitter.com/#!/AdamSchefter/status/163649636039532544

This is interesting, considering many attribute the success of LBers much to Butler, and it is hard to argue because let's face it, they do have amazing LBers. Another interesting thing to note is that he is a 3-4 guy. So it could seem as if we are looking to switch to the 3-4 given coach Pagano's statement during the press conference and now this hire. This will be an interesting offseason to say the least. GO COLTS!

Butler is a good one

I’m sorry to see him go but it’s a step up for him. I actually believed he would be the next Steelers LeBeau.

Damn you, Colts.

LOL

we’ll see…. you forget… colts fans actually want to pass the ball while PITT wants to run it so I actually think its a nice fit. caldwell is predictable with his offense so you want a OC who will run… he’ll give you that but no creativity all with cliche explainations.

remember… the prob with the steelers was not the offense it was the defense got old and several players were injured. if not for a lucky game by tebow you guys I believe would be going to the SB. good luck with your team next season i’m sure we’ll still be on our training wheels so it will take us a little bit longer to talk smack about seeing you guys in the playoffs.

But do Colts fans want to throw bubble screens to your slowest WRs

and at least 3 TE screen plays per game? Do Colts fans want to take 10 to 12 deep shots a game even if the short passing game is working?

we’ll have to see what he brings but lets face it no fan is 100% happy with their OC or DC. even in NE fans just this year were asking whats wrong early in the season and the NYG fans upset at the play calling during that stretch.

all I know as a colts fan is he is way better than Clyde and if we do keep peyton it works since manning is a OC and if we draft luck arians develops QB’s. looking at PITT games obviously there are going to be questionable playcalling but thats real with ANY OC.

We have Dick LeBeau

I promise you, we’re quite happy with our DC. Butler has consistently groomed some of the best LB’s in the game~ he studied under the master. He’ll only improve your defense.

I fully expect Arians to counter produce everything on the offense that Butler will give you on the defense. The man can truly make you pull your hair out.

You guys might have training wheels on for a little while, but I’m confident in your successful return to the top of the AFC South in no time. Afterall, who’s gonna stop you? Tennessee?? Pluh-eeeease.

so you mentioned something above about butler being offered the DC position in PITT?

i only worry about the texans since the scared puppy look from Blaine in JAX lets me know they got it wrong there and the titans just seem lost after CJ lost his way.

the one game I MUST see next year outside the colts is your PITT @ Denver game… THAT will be must see TV with a healthy Pitt team.

Noooo Butler wasn't offered the DC position in Pittsburgh

Butler was our LB’ers coach and a darn good one, too. It was my feeling that he was being groomed to be the next DC for us when LeBeau chooses to retire.

I don’t know of a game I don’t look forward to, but … I always check where the 2 games we play the Ravens are. I love those games. It’s football the way it used to be played. 220+ days till the start of the season… can’t wait.

I have no intention of arguing with you. I will say this, however: The AFCN put 3 of the 6 AFC teams in the playoffs. Not too shabby I’d say.

only 3 screen passes to the te?

hell, when dallas clark was healthy that was a good first half for the colts.

Nevermind. Butler is staying in Pittsburgh

…but you can go ahead and keep Arians anyway :)

not sure how I feel about this one

would’ve rather seen the QB coach from the saints or pack to break up that steelers connection.

by Dito29 on Jan 29, 2012 12:00 PM EST reply actions

You’re right dito. A qb coach to be defensive coordinator would have been great.

by Indyrampage on Jan 29, 2012 12:12 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

came out wrong

If we were going to get the steelers d, I would’ve rather colts get a different OC than arians. not first choices for me but still satisfied, we could do a lot worse. Pittsburgh has always been a tough out on both sides of the ball so I’m not mad with the choices. Now lets get to work!!!!!

We can't get Butler

If I remember correctly, he was blocked from interviewing in Arizona for their DC job last year. That’s why Ray Horton got the job.

Believe in Blue.

who would have thought mike tyson be breaking colts news...

nice job. i actually think pagano will be the real voice on the defensive side and gameplays hence why he hired a LB coach and not another DC who might have wanted to bring his style when its paganos style of coaching n the defensive side we were more interested in.

i love the direction the colts are going to a more aggressive more smash mouth style. my only regret… wish we could have done this when we had a healthy manning.

Very interesting question!!

I think they will eaither trade or keep freeney for his last year. There is no point of extending his contract cause he will not fitt the new defense and trust me, he wants a full contract and he deserves it. He ows nothing to colts for home town discount!
Mathis will be interesting…I would love to have him but he wants a full contract for the exact same reason as freeney. Again, he deserves it!
My question is if they want to pay all that cash to him, isn’t it wiser to draft high and save the money or pay that full money on an actuall de/OLB?!

by Nojan on Jan 29, 2012 7:44 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

as much as freeney cap hit is I hope they trade him

i love the guy as a player but times are a changing. i actually think if you are rebuilding and taking luck then you let mathis go as well and get cheaper younger talent to build with. that would fit the “we want a more balanced financial team” irsay talked about.

by BigMan74 on Jan 29, 2012 8:16 PM EST up reply actions

I bet he gets extended and plays out his time as Colt.

Pagano has said he thinks Mathis & Freeney can play in his defense, whatever it will be.
