Keith Butler turns down Colts offer to interview

Link

It looks like we are still looking for a new defensive coordinator. I was kind of worried about this since he was waiting until Tuesday to interview. This would give the Steelers time to speak with him and convince him to change his mind. I wonder who Chuck Pagano will go after next. Why not bring someone in from the Ravens? It will be interesting to see who they bring in next. I hate it when people like Schefter report information prematurely. His tweet made it sound like he was coming to sign a contract.

I saw this.

Very disappointing. I do wish they would do a better job of controlling information.

How?

The guy has a job. He’s not under contract but it’s obvious that Pittsburgh wants him. If the Steelers made him an offer and promised him a shot at their DC position why wouldn’t he take it? He’s been there a long time, he knows the system, he knows his personnel he just has to wait for Lebeau(sp sorry) to retire. As of right now, the better option is to wait it out in Pittsburgh. They made him a better deal than Indy could have. He’s smart, not flaky.

In 3-5 years I hope he is regretting his decision but there are so many what if’s in Indy and I think it’s going to be funny to watch all of these “new fans” abandon ship when it looks like it’s sinking. The past decade has been pretty rosy and I’m afraid that we may experience reality once again.

Or...

I’m not calling the guy a flake or saying he made a poor decision. But to me why would i sit and wait to become a defensive coordinator when i could be one right now. Under a coach who understands the scheme as well as he does. Where he would then have a faster track to become a head coach.

there are literally hundreds of reasons, maybe he just really liked his neighborhood?

actually, if he were to accept the Pitt job, then come here and interview, it would be unethical

I doesn’t mean anything, other than Pitt offered him something he couldn’t pass up

He continues to be LBers coach

And if Lebeau retires in the near future, he inherits a very old D. 7 starters on D are over 30 and a few backups too.

Interviews aren't public

Probably these guys know more, than us. Probably when Pagano interviewed, he was told what’s up w Manning and other issues.

true.

I’m trying to come up with a mock draft for the Colts right now, the only problem is the fact that we have no baseline as to who we even need or how our GM thinks… They clearly have no doubt what their goals are, we’re just all a little in the dark and will be for a while.
