While the Luck vs RG3 debate goes on, one thing that all the pro Luck fans in Indy are missing is "what the future holds for Manning" with the team if in fact he is drafted by the Colts. For all of you who think that Luck is going to "sit" behind the 4 time MVP for 3 or 4 years, well, to put it delicately, you're smoking crack. For those of you who think Manning is going to "sit" behind the rookie for the remainder of his career, your smoking crack laced with marijuana. I don't care what Irsay said in his interview recently, If you see Luck in a Colts uniform you can best believe the next shot you'll see of Manning will be of his backside with bags in hand headed to who knows where. If you want a hint of what the rookie thinks of playing second fiddle to Manning, check out his post game interview against Oklahoma: "ESPN's Heather Cox asked, "If Peyton Manning stays in Indy and stays healthy, how would you feel about a situation where you were a backup to Peyton for a while?"
Luck answered carefully: "If that's the situation, I'm sure it would be great," he said flatly. "If that's how it is, such is life. If that is indeed what happens, I'll just do the best I can."
Such is life.
That's not exactly a ringing endorsement of the kid being thrilled with the idea of holding a clip board when he gets into the NFL for any significant amount of time. Quite frankly, I don't blame him. With all due respect, Luck is good enough to start "now." I think he will be better than Peyton, and Rodgers when they entered the league. Yes, he's that good. so this debate about whether or not the Colts should take him or RG3 with the idea that he should come to Indy and "play behind Manning" for the 1st 4 years of his career (Years that he won't be able to get back) needs to die. That's a pipe dream that's not gonna happen.
Luck will be the new face of the franchise and the future starts now. I believe if the Colts are going to keep Manning in any capacity with the team, then RG3 is your choice. This is an easy decision to make and if Irsay is the man I think he is, he will go with the kid on draft day. Manning has taken this franchise as far as he can, and is on the downside of his career. Can he play at a high level for 3,4, possibly 5 more years? Maybe. But ask yourself this question, when will this team ever have another chance to draft a QB of Luck's caliber? Manning might be able to give the franchise a few more solid years at the QB position, but Luck or RG3 can give you high level play for the next 12 to 15 years. The future is not 3 or for years away people. The future is "now." This is one pick you don't mess up on. This is the pick in which you make the only choice that makes the most sense with. That choice is investing in the future. The long term future.
