Pagano was reportedly diagnosed with leukemia during the bye week and is staying at a local Indianapolis hospital. Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians is the interim head coach while Pagano recovers.
Rough news to report this morning. Per Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star and Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with leukemia and is staying in a local Indianapolis hospital. Pagano was feeling fatigued recently and he went in for blood tests during the bye week. Acute promyelocytic leukemia was the diagnosis.
Per Kravitz, a "top exec" called the illness "serious," but expects Pagano to recover.
This illness will require the Colts head coach to miss a number of games. Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians is expected to act as the interim head coach while Pagano recovers.
A press conference is scheduled for 10:30 am ET today where Pagano's illness will be further detailed.
Obviously, hearts and thoughts go out to coach, who has worked very hard for many years to land a coaching gig like this one. To have something like this happen now is just terrible. We wish him a speedy and complete recovery.
We've have more on this as it develops.
