This is the
second third year in a row that Powers has landed on IR, and now his career in Indianapolis is very much in doubt. Since being drafted in the third round, the Auburn alum has been unable to stay healthy. He's never played an entire NFL season, and has only played in 30 of a possible 48 regular season games the last three years.
Powers has been out since Week 8 with a toe injury. He's a free agent at season's end.
Joining Power on IR is defensive end Drake Nevis. Nevis, like Powers, is landing on the season-ending injury list, his for the second year in a row. Nevis was a third round pick of the Colts in 2011.
The Colts were contacted to clarify if Powers or Nevis were designated for return, per the new IR rules. We're waiting on their reply. My personal sense is that they were not. If they were, the press release from the team would have mentioned it.
With two additional roster spots open, the Colts opted to activate tight end Kyle Miller from the practice squad. They also activated nose tackle Josh Chapman, who was recently taken off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Chapman is expected to play Sunday against the Patriots (6-3).
[UPDATE]: Just heard back from the Colts. Powers and Nevis not designated for return from IR. Their seasons are over.
