Tom Telesco Promoted To VP Of Football Operations

One of the last men standing from the Bill Polian era will be sticking around a little longer. Colts general manager Ryan Grigson has made the decision to promote Tom Telesco to vice president of football operations.

"I’ve known Tom for a long time and we have a mutual respect for each other," Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said. "He has been a valuable member of the Colts organization over the last 14 years and this promotion is well deserved. He has a bright football mind, conveys his points well and is highly respected in and around league circles. I’m looking forward to working with him this season as we make strides towards our ultimate goal."

Telesco was a strong candidate for the then-vacant general manager position. His tenure with the Colts has spanned 14 years. Initially an area scout for the team, Telesco was then a pro scout, director of pro scouting, and eventually received a promotion to director of player personnel in 2005.

Telesco's career roots included a gig with the Buffalo as a summer intern from 1991-94. Telesco then took a job with Carolina as a scouting assistant in 1995. During the Polian fallout, Telesco was on his way to Arizona to scout Andrew Luck in the Fiesta Bowl.

Well-deserved promotion for a hard working guy.

Congratulations, Mr. Telesco.

Not really excited

about this pick unless he had nothing at all to do with the last 5 drafts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did not matter

He could have made excellent suggestions. The Polians made all the picks.

Remember, not all the picks from the last 5 drafts were bad picks. Don Brown has shown flashes. Costanzo and Ijalana look like cornerstones. Powers is a solid CB. Angerer has the potential to be a star. Nevis looks good. Collie and Garcon are good WRs and Garcon has star potential.

I also scouted Andrew Luck in that game...

…and came away extremely impressed. He put his team in position to win and the kicker missed the kick. Tom Telesco, assuming he was focused on the game instead of the drama on West 56th, had to likewise be impressed. I am glad he is sticking around. I want guys who are impressed by Andrew Luck in the front office. RGIII is entertaining in the college game, but Luck is the prototype pro QB.

Agreed.

RGIII really only had one good year while Luck has played at a consistently high level in college.

I think that Tom Telesco

fits the new vision but yet he still has old insight to the team on a player level. I think this bodes well for the Colt’s players and I am glad Ryan kept him. It proves that Ryan will surround himself with whomever he needs to in order to help see his “vision.” Go Colts!

This is definitely a good indicator that the Colts will continue to draft on the successful need/value axis that produced so much success over the last decade.

I hope they break out of the mold

of small quick players. I would rather see big, fast players. I think the signing from the CFL is indication, that the Colts will not draft like they have been.

i think this is a good sign

it shows grigson is not just cleaning house for the sake of it. it seems he is actually living up to his words in his welcoming presser. telesco IS considered a great scout and it would have been foolish to get rid of him. make no mistake, the polians made all the final drafting decisions.

i can’t wait to see this years draft and FA signings! the years of the undersized, scrappy players is hopefully finished and we can start drafting some real physical forces. we now have a couple of heralded football minds to put together a new dynasty!…………starting with Luck and not Vince Young, er….i mean RG3.

No reason to bash RG3

He isn’t Anything like VY at all.

VY is fat lazy and extremely stupid. He also had no heart and contemplated suicide (allegedly) because he had a bad game and the fans booed

RG3 is much faster and more accurate than VY. He graduated in 3 years Pre Law with a 3.6. Baylor is arguably the best academic school in the Big 12. He comes from a great family and military background.

Luck is the better and more pro ready QB and the Colts should draft him…

There is no reason to bash RG3. He should be very good also…

i'm not bashing the guy

i’m just not a fan of that style of play. these “athletic” QB’s are all the same. they may have great games but are not consistant. this is what separates vick, young, soon to be newton, mcnair and so on. i know some of these guys had and will have fine careers, but we want championships not espn top 10 highlights, don’t we? RG3 seems to be a great kid with a good head on his shoulders but there are a lot of questions about his game. surely you would not argue that….

set in stone

there are just a few fundamental laws to winning in the NFL: you have to have a pocket passing QB for most consistant result. you must have strong front lines on both sides of the ball and you must be able to run the ball……it’s all about consistancy.

I know Bills fans were looking hard at him when they were looking for a new General Manager.
