The Colts are quickly becoming Ravens West, which is just a tad ironic considering that the Colts played in Baltimore for decades before they Mayflowered their way to Indianapolis 28 years ago.
After inking former-Ravens defensive end Cory Redding earlier this week, head coach Chuck Pagano managed to lure safety Tom Zbikowski to Indianapolis as well, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Zbikowski provides stability at a position that has been a weakness in recent years: Strong Safety. Bob Sanders and Melvin Bullitt were never able to stay healthy, and Joe Lefeged did little last season to convince anyone he was a true starter.
Zbikowski played for the Ravens from 2008-2011. He was a third round selection out of Notre Dame, which makes his signing with the Colts a bit of a homecoming.
Tommy Z should also bring some much needed toughness to the safety position. During the lockout last year, he filled his time by making his professional boxing debut at Madison Square Garden in New York City. He beat Robert Bell of Akron, Ohio by TKO within 49.0 seconds of the first round.
So, yeah. THAT'S our team's new safety. Me like.
