As I've mourned through last night and all of today, a thought has hit me. Is Indianapolis risking Manning's legacy as an Indy guy?
Now I know that Colts fans will always think of Peyton as THEIR guy and THEIR QB. But what if something happens? What if Peyton comes back healthy and back to form as we hope he does, he lands on a contender, and well.....makes more history? Follow me for a second. Suppose he happens to end up in a place like Arizona or Seattle. What if he has a few more legendary seasons with them, maybe an MVP season even, and maybe wins a Super Bowl or Two? Now granted, that is a lot of ifs but he does get his pick of teams and he'll pick a serious contender so none of this is aboslutely impossible though maybe unlikely. But if he brought Seatlle or Arizona their first Super Bowl or two on top of great statistical seasons maybe for his career(passing Marino and maybe Favre on career lists) or maybe single season or playoff type records? Those teams fans will claim we threw him away and they took him in and let him get records and/or rings. Now obviously, even if he goes somewhere and broke every record and won 3 or 4 rings in a row, Colts fans will still remember Peyton as THEIR guy and QB. Indy loves Peyton and he loves Indy. But now we'd have to fight with another fanbase about where his true legacy lies. Well maybe that is overstating it but they'd at least claim they get an equal share in his legacy as the Colts do. Again it is a lot of ifs and hypotheticals but still these things are possible. What do you guys think?
