Hello form Panther land. This weekend Cat Scratch Reader had a seven round mock draft with all 32 teams represented. I was the assistant GM fro your Indianapolis Colts and was responcible for picking rounds 4 through 7.

I would love to hear from some actual Colts fans about how we did.

A Review of The Draft

Colts Draft:

We traded back up to the first round to get Coby. The Dallas Cowboys were leaning heavily towards him and we had to get ahead of them. The move basically cost us a second rounder. (It cost more picks but we got some of those back later.)
Round 1 Pick 1 – QB Andrew Luck - No explanation needed.
Round 1 Pick 30 – TE Coby Fleener - Drafted as a weapon for Luck as well as someone to learn with.
Round 3 Pick 64 – CB Jayron Hosley - He was the BPA and also filled a need.

I drafted the second day and I traded back, giving up the pick in the fourth to stock pile picks.

Round 5 Pick 143 – C David Molk - One of the most underrated Centers in the draft. I drafted him to potentially be the future center. Not to mention as an insurance policy in case Samson Satele dosen't work out.
Round 5 Pick 153 – CB Chris Greenwood - I couldn't resist drafting him in the fifth. A potential starter down the road.
Round 5 Pick 170 – NT Hebron Fangupo - With the move to the 3-4 a young NT seemed to be needed.
Round 6 Pick 172 – ?? Brett Roy - My homer-ism came out on this pick. He was available in the sixth and would be a DE in the 3-4.
Round 6 Pick 194 – WR Rishard Matthews - See above about homer-ism. I was thrilled that Matthews fell into the late sixth. He will not go that late in the real draft.
Round 6 Pick 206 – HB Tauren Poole - Just before this pick we traded away Donald Brown. He was the best runner left, Dan Herron had just gone off the board and we were looking for runners.
Round 7 Pick 208 – TE Rhett Ellison - At this point we just started looking for weapons to put around Luck.
Round 7 Pick 222 – OG Joe Looney - A good late round snag. This pick was targeted to be Chris Owusu but he was drafted by the damn Patriots four picks before.
Round 7 Pick 253 – WR Tim Benford - I thought I had hit the jackpot when he was still available this late. The last pick was a guy who I think would be a good wide receiver in the future. He reminds me a bit of Victor Cruz.

And added UDFAs:
CB Isaiah Frey
HB Fozzy Whittaker - A potential kick returner and a good get as a free agent.
OG Stephen Good - Depth on the inside line.

With so many issues I decided to focus on trying to put pieces around Luck. (And if you are wondering I am a Nevada homer.)

We also traded away Donald Brown. I messed that one up a bit, when I didn’t draft a real replacement HB for Brown. I got so into the GM position that I was planning to sign a free agent RB like Hightower or Grant for a year and draft a runner next year. Then I realized that we were just doing the draft. DUH.
