Just wanted to offer a quick congratulations to all Colts fans on this draft day. While this has been a bittersweet process for all of you, with the departure of Peyton Manning and several other players, I just hope everyone is enthusiastic that everything is on the way up. Nobody likes to rebuild, but not many teams are lucky enough to start off that process with one of the best QB prospects coming out of college in the last two decades.
I'm a Stanford fan myself, and have been following Andrew Luck since Day 1 when I saw a special player the minute he took over as a red-shirt freshman and handed himself with amazing composure. Many of you have watched Andrew Luck for yourself, but with watching every game since the beginning of 2009, there's no doubt in my mind about how Luck is going to change this Colts franchise. This guy is simply one of the best football players-- from a mental and physical standpoint-- that I've ever had the benefit of being able to watch, and he's only 22 years old.
I could write an essay on how Andrew Luck (along with, and mostly thanks to Jim Harbaugh) changed Stanford and turned the program into what it is today. In the last two seasons, Luck hasn't been perfect, with three multi-inteception games the last two seasons. There were devastating losses to Oregon that came from those mistakes, and there was more. One of those losses cost Stanford a chance at the BCS National Championship, but I wasn't let down, even with the mistakes. Frankly, I've never felt Andrew Luck let down this team. I've never doubted him, or ever felt worried about his performance. After a pick-6 against USC back in October that gave USC a lead with little time left, I still had no worry. I knew what Andrew was truly capable of. I knew he'd lead this team back, and he did it.
Maybe that's just one moment, or it could be the epitome of exactly what Andrew will do at the next level. We won't know for a while, but I do know that I am truly envious of all Colts fans and the entire franchise, for you all are getting a truly special player.
