Lost in yesterday's bungled announcement about the Colts opting not to ease local TV blackout rules for the 2012 was the news (via Aaron Wilson) that Indianapolis waived rookie linebacker Chris Galippo. Galippo was signed as an undrafted free agent immediately following the 2012 NFL Draft. He played his college ball at USC.
With Galippo hitting the bricks, that means the Colts have an open roster spot one day prior to the 2012 Supplemental Draft.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
It's also possible the team could just be opening up a spot in anticipation of signing another player. Or, maybe they thought Galippo was a bum and not worth keeping. Maybe the defensive coaches feel the stable of linebackers they have right now are fine, and Galippo is just dead weight on the roster. Who knows.
The timing of the move is curious though.
Here's a list of players who are eligible for the 2012 Supplemental Draft:
- Boise State DB Quaylon Ewing
- Baylor WR Josh Gordon
- Syracuse RB Adam Harris
- Iowa State T Adrian Haughton
- Carson-Newman LB Larry Lumpkin
- Georgia DE Montez Robinson
- McMurray WR Houston Tuminello
- TCU RB Ed Wesley
Of this group, Gordon of Baylor is the one everyone is talking about.
