As injuries continue to mount, Ryan Grigson is forced to trade or exchange defensive backs so he can keep fresh bodies in the linebacking corps. Two weeks ago, he traded CB Kevin Thomas for linebackers Moise Fokou and Greg Lloyd. Today, he placed cornerback Buddy Jackson on the waived-injured list and signed Mike Balogun.
Balogun is a 6'0, 247 lbs backer who has been with five NFL teams and one UFL team in three seasons. We call these types of guys "camp bodies."
At training camp today, Moise Fokou earned a lot of reps with the first unit. Also working in there some was Jerrell Freeman. One of these two is likely to win the starting inside linebacker spot next to Kavell Conner. Pat Angerer, the normal starter with Conner, is out for six weeks with a fractured foot.
Buddy Jackson, the corner placed on waived-injured, was a player we had our eye on since the Colts signed him as an undrafted rookie after the last day of the 2012 NFL Draft.
