Colts Need Replacement For Avery. Should Give Luck Something Manning Never Had: Size and Speed at WR..

There's a lot of chatter going around about the Colts going after Mike Wallace right now, which in a sense is more wishful thinking from the fan base than anything else. Plus, this really all started before BA accepted the Cardinals HC position. One of the things I really like looking forward to next season as far as the offense is concerned, is the hiring of Luck's former OC from Stanford Pep Hamilton. I said from the beginning I think Luck is more suited for the "west coast" offense vs the bombs away down field aerial attack that Bruce Arians employed while being the OC here in Indy. Luck is a very accurate passer on his short to mid range throws. Back when everyone was comparing Luck to Manning, Big Ben, and Cam Newton, I said the QB he really most resembles is Steve Young. Young was tailor made for the west coast offense. I believe Luck is cut from the same cloth. That being said, as the Colts move forward this off-season in filling holes on both sides of the ball, the team should consider finding a WR who has both size and speed.

During Mannings' career with the Colts, he never had a legitimate WR over 6-2 with deep speed. Considering how good Indy's offense was this past season, a WR in the 6-3 range would take this team over the top and make them a very hard team to defend. In terms of personal at the skill position spots, the only person I think needs to be replaced is Donnie Avery. The Colts need a bigger body at the WR spot with speed to compliment Wayne and rookie sensation T.Y. Hilton. Speaking of Hilton, There's a consensus out there that he should move into the #2 spot next season alongside Wayne. I disagree. I think Hilton should stay where his is in the slot ala Wes Welker as the safety valve who doubles as a big play threat down the field he's been all season. I don't think Hilton would enjoy the kind of success as a starter at the #2 spot that he has as a slot receiver. For those of you who want to site Desean Jackson of the Eagles I'll counter in saying that we don't have a home run threat in Shady McCoy lining up behindLuck that defenses have to respect like the Eagles do. Desean Jackson works at his size for the Eagles because he is not the only player on their offense with speed. Teams can't play Jackson the same way they can Hilton because the Eagles are a lot more dynamic on offense than the Colts are.

The Colts have the kind of personal that can mirror the Pats offense in that when comparing the personal, both teams have the same kind of players. The Pats have Gronkowski and Hernandez. The Colts have a pair of dynamic TEs of their own in Fleener and Allen. The Pats have Welker. We have a faster version in Hilton. The one thing the Pats have that we don't have on offense right now is a deep threat with size in Brandon Lloyd. That's all the Colts need on offense at the skill position. As draft day creeps closer, I really hope the 1st thing the Colts are able to address is at DT or CB. I think we can concentrate on getting a good O linemen later in the draft now that the offense is moving to a west coast offense. Luck will be called to get rid of the ball a lot faster than before which means the linemen won't have to block as long as before. All this really boils down to who will fall to the Colts on draft day. I think Grigson will go for best available player when it's all said and done. I don't know about you, but training camp can't come soon enough.
