Since we lost Reggie for the season, I felt it was a decent time to write down a little note about Reggie.
Honestly, when we had Marvin and Reggie I loved Marvin way more. I liked Clark more. I liked Garcon more (until he left...jerk). I liked Collie more. I wasn't a big Reggie guy. I thought he was a little too cocky and made by Manning. When we limped to the #1 pick I was certain Reggie would bail and hunt for a ring, namely with the Patriots.
Then Reggie resigned with the team. That was a turning point for him in my mind. Reggie came back to a team that most people, outside of the Colts building, thought was en route to another top 5 pick before last year started. Then we had a magical season, which started with the game against the Packers. You all know the story of the orange gloves and how the game went.
As Reggie continued to play out of his mind it became clear it definitely wasn't all Manning making Reggie's career. As an old, and I thought washed up receiver, Reggie put up HUGE and important numbers last season. I almost thought about getting a jersey even though I knew he would retire in a few years time. I didn't, but you get the point.
The moment Reggie grew in my eyes, though, was when he returned. It made me compare him to Marvin. Granted Marvin was old and had nothing left when he was cut. But let's remember that Marvin requested his release from the team. Add in his off the field issues and I certainly think a little less of Marvin, even though none of that stuff has been proven.
I was hoping Reggie would pass Marvin on the all-time reception list, but now it looks unlikely. Regardless, I do hope that Reggie will be remembered as better than Marvin. I know it won't happen because Marvin was incredible in his time with the team. But the way Reggie came back and played out of his mind makes he at least hope people will take him over Marvin in the future, I would.
I would hate Sunday night to have been the last time we see Reggie on the football field, but my mind tells me that it certainly could be. I hope we get one more season with Reggie next year! #ReggieStrong
